First off for those of you who do not know what NAC is it is a form of the amino acid cysteine(n-acetyl-cysteine).
When you workout you heavily tax your body and release free radicals. Free radicals damage and breakdown muscle cells. The only ways to combat these free radicals are with antioxidants. One of the most effective antioxidants is glutathione. This is where NAC comes in. NAC increases glutathione levels in the blood stream thus helping to battle the free radicals. I did a cycle of AST's NAC 500 and found it greatly increased my recovery time.
Importance: Optional
Effectiveness: High
Side effects: None
I got this from one of big reds articles that pretty much sums it up
Although it is not the best to take with zinc. It makes you drain a lot of your zinc down the toilet. But I would think taking a 50mg zinc gluconate that you would still get enough of it anyways. Just don't take them at the same time.
Now I am definetly not a expert, so I will gladly stand corrected.
NAC is a very cheap supp. so I was thinking some of you guys could try it to see if you see a noticeable difference in recovery.
I will be buying a bottle soon to expierence with it also. I think this would be good to do so I hope yall can help out so we can find out if NAC really is underrated. So post your thoughts about the supp. and I also have a poll to reccomend or not to reccomend.
Thanks guys,
Nathan

NAC is a great supplement for an antioxidant. I use it regularly since I do cardio a lot while training with heavy weights also. The only problem I have with NAC, is that you need to gulp it down with some water... if the NAC pill breaks in your throat, get ready for some heartburn from HELL. The taste is so bitter.

Well, so far, so good. But we need more replies. Maybe its cause not very many people are taking it at the moment... Therefore proving it is underrated because of the positive replies so far.

Everyone get on NAC and stay on it. This stuff is amazing. While you may not notice alot when you are on it you will definetly know when you stop using it. Personally I get amazing recovery and overall I am healthier when using it. Take 500-600mgs at least 3 times a day but as much as 6 times a day if you like.

NAC question (yes i have used the search button)
i purchased NAC (600mg caps) some time ago but never took any because i was unsure of how much and when is the best time to take it. i've done searches and i've seen anywhere from 3-6 times a day 600mg, 1200mg PWO and every 12 hrs. Is there a best time/recommended dosage or should i just follow what is on the bottle (1 or two a day, no specific time)?

Multi-Year Bump.
I take two scoops of whey every day, with my shake. Sometimes more.
I get 880mg of Cysteine with each shake, probably well over a gram of supplemental cysteine.
What is the benefit of supplementing with NAC, above and beyond whey?
I have seen two people (Will in this thread, and someone else in another one from the archives) claim that whey has better delivery anyway.
I am also interested in hangover anecdotes, as I enjoy drinking.Live Laugh Love,

This is a good site for getting things such as NAC and you can customize what you get. As far as NAC you get get 800mg capsules with 300 per batch for $20. The more batches you order the cheaper it is per batch also, and you can also throw in some other things. I use them to get my liver support supplements in bulk and it comes out pretty cheap. Actually unless it appears glitched its extremely cheap, you can get 5 batches of 300caps a batch 800mg/cap NAC for $20.14 by just clicking number of batches and ordering more than one.

The life extension forums are dumping all over this supplement now with some sort of new 'study' about it's harmful effects...
