I probably should have mentioned I this is not a 100% gaming rig, figured it would be obvious with the 180$ video card. And seriously if you think a 3570k is a better CPU plz go.. Ya maybe in games that use 2cores and the benchmarks are done at 800x600.
70% work 30% game. 8cores will just continue to get better with software optimization plus with new consoles on the way games will use more and more cores. Plz people look at more than two benchmarks on tomshardware before formulating opinions.

Hey I am pretty new to the whole idea of building a computer because most of the time I've just gone and bought a preExisting rig. Anyway I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction about getting started and picking pieces. Gonna gear the rig toward gaming and I have a grand to spend, maybe a little more.

Agree'd, such a nice card though.
Im not happy with my 6870 only because the 1gb ram limits me and my skyrim gaming with mods. My **** crashes cause it reaches passed 999vram usage lool.
Other than that I do love my 6870, I run most other games fine max settings @ 1080p.
I know my next upgrade gon have 2 or 4gb vramSTEAM: rangetsu1 | SC: jonnyboiiir | IG: jonnyreyes12

anyone playing dat der crysis 3? I downloaded and have about an hour in... been busy with lifting stuff and work. Hope to get some game time in this weekend. New system seems to handle it all on very high and 4x alising but doesn't like when I put the "system spec" on very high. It'll drop to 20 frames and get choppy. Put that on high and everything else on max and it runs 40-50fps.
Also general question. I have a wired xbox controller plugged into my usb. Is it just me or is there a little latency between inputs and the system reacting? Could just be the game is not as responsive as COD.

lol stop looking at GPU bottlenecked benchmarks. because those are the only ones a fx beats an i5. you admitted you did research for two days. i've been building and selling computers for years.
i dont know what kind of work you do but for the $300+ dollars you spend on the fx, motherboard and cooler you couldve gotten an ivy bridge xeon E3 with 8 threads and turbo boost with a B75 motherboard.

Tempted to neg. troll or are you just stupid? I said 70/30 I'm still using it for BF3, Planetside2 etc. Compare to other CPUs in the price range of $190.. FX8350 is the best hands down especially if you will be running intense app too. Go look at recent crysis3 benchmarks. More heavily threaded games means AMD CPUs will shine even more in the future.

Well thanks for the advice and critiquing my build.. But you're recommending a locked CPU and a motherboard with 1 SATA 6.0gbs?? My setup is actually $10 more than that including the cooler and has more features and can be OCd to much higher speeds. I'm not too familiar with that chip but it looks like its on par with 2600k. The fx8350 holds its own against the 2600k in benchmarks and actually beats it in many including Photoshop. I know you're trying your hardest to come up with a better solution for my build through Intel but look it won't happen I've done the research in my budget.. THIS IS THE BEST CPU ON THE MARKET PERIOD..... in this budget.

Dude that benchmark doesn't even list the 8350 rofl. You realize the 8150 is bulldozer and x3xxx is pile driver right?

i hope you get free electricity, because you're budget savings will be erased from the power needed to run an overclocked fx.
the xeon is the server/workstation version of an i7. even at stock it will still beat your fx in most things.
i own several, athlons, phenoms and an fx. i know their limitations. i tried to defend AMD as long as i could but just cant anymore. i think they have real winners in their low power bobcat and upcoming jaguar architectures, but they'll never catch up to intel again in servers, workstations and gaming desktops.
yes but its still the same basic architecture. and we know from benchmarks that pile driver is about 10% faster per clock than bulldozer. but ivy bridge is also about 10% faster than sandy bridge.

For the amd vs intel talk
theres a lot of new benchmarks coming out because of Logan's video lol. Interesting to watch a bunch of these.
I'm wondering if those two microsoft patches/hotfixes make a difference for the AMD side, Touchdownrobots you seem really knowledgeable so I want your input on these benches. I had high hopes for amd much like you kept defending them until they came out with Zambezi. Lost all faith in AMD after that poor showing.

Piledriver seemed to get a bad wrap early on but I think these win7 fixs really helped the processor compared to old benchmarks I've seen... Everyone at work I talked to about building a PC owns Intel and said what a joke AMD was and seriously two guys laughed at me for even considering an AMD. They also have not seen any performance reviews since bulldozer. Anyway none of this is first hand knowledge but I will be getting my PC Saturday hopefully if FedEx comes through but maybe Monday. And we can see first hand what this processor can do!

the windows 7 hotfixes gave at most a 10% increase, and in some things it gave no increase at all.
its just ludicrous to suggest that a fx-8350 has the best price/performance ratio. the fx-8300 or fx-8120 are much cheaper and you can easily overclock them to fx8350 levels.
i like AMD as a budget option and i've posted numerous builds using either an $80 athlon x4 or $90 phenom x4. both can be overclocked and have a better IPC and price/performance ratios than any fx processor. if you are spending more than $100 on a CPU then you need to go i5, i7 or xeon. i'm not a fan of i3's and would take an AMD quad over an i3 all day long

a single 670 is a bottleneck is some of those games. and both CPU traded blows in the games they used.
i just watched his video and it costs $21 more to run the overclocked AMD over 3 years assuming using it for only 3 hours a day. Now if you're using this as a workstation, you're probably going to be running it more than 3 hours a day, so it will cost even more.
AMD overclocked system was 375watts at the wall
Intel overclocked system was 250watts at the wall
you can also save more money going intel by buying a smaller and cheaper power supply
right now i am running an overclocked i5 and an overclocked gtx670 in a tiny little Silverstone sugo case with a 450watt power supply. this is simply not possible with an AMD CPU or GPU (AMD GPU's are too long)

Currently have this GPU in my system:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102908
How much of an upgrade would I see if I upgraded to a 2gb 7870 card and would it be worth the plunge or would a 7850 be enough? Really want to Max out settings with BioShock Infinite and some other upcoming games and when I re-install Skyrim, enable some better ENB mods, currently on a 1080p monitor

Now that the Titan is overpriced IMO. I was thinking about a GTX 680 4GB or the GTX 690. But 780 isn't too far off 6+ months.

$21 over three years. You said it man. And as I have been saying since I threw my opinion into this, the 8350 flat out beats the 3570k when you factor in multi tasking, fraps(or similar) recording or live streaming. So, once again there isn't really a reason to buy the 3570k at that price point right now over the 8350. If we are talking the 3770k then that's a different story, but it's also a different price point.

except the fx8350 doesnt beat the i5 in that many things. in fact it loses in many more things, especially single threaded performance. yes there are a few apps that can take advantage of 8 integer cores but it is the exception not the rule.
if you really cared about multi tasking for cheap you would get the xeon e3-1230, it is just a locked i7-3770 without the integrated graphics. pair that up with a nice cheap B75 or H77 motherboard and you've got a platform that is cheaper than AMD and more power efficient.
