Hi,
I currently work in a local lumberyard. I get about 20-30 hours per week, and make 9.50 on weekdays and 11.50 on weekends. But to be honest, I hate the job. I have no interest in lumber, nor I do I really know anything about it. Working in some sort of supplement shop would interest me much more.
So my question to anyone reading this who's worked at a vitamine shoppe, GNC, etc etc... Did you enjoy it? What were the ups and downs? How were the hours and how was the pay? Why did you quit, assuming you did? etc etc...
Any advice is much appreciated and will be repped (Currently repped no one today, so fully recharged). Thanks guys!

I think at 22 you should look for a better job, one that actually has a future (serious, not trying to be a dick)

If I had a choice of working at those two places I would pick VS because they carry a better selection of products. I have shopped at both places, never worked at either ...

Thanks for the responses guys! I've gotten a few PM's too so I'm just going to rep who I can for tonight in the order the help was given. Again, I appreciate any advice you can give me.
Conrad: Any experience in the fitness field is still experience. I'm currently working another job and going to school to become a strength and conditioning coach. I'll soon be shadowing my old high school football/wrestling coach to get advice from him. I definitely have a plan for my future, but right now, my job sucks, haha. But I do thank you for your concern. I realize in the supplement shop industry, on it's own, has a poor future. Basically management, and that's it.

I worked at a franchise GNC for about 2.5yrs and I loved it. I was paid $12/hr and 3% of total sales for the day for just bsing with people about lifting/supplements, eating, and surfing the Internet. My experience may not be ordinary because I worked for an extremely cool guy, but I'd say go for it. The best advise I can give you is to NOT work at a corporate GNC. Franchise or nothing........trust me on this.

I definitely am! This is just temporary. A job, not a career. And I'd like my job to be just as enjoyable as my career will be. Thanks for the advice so far guys.

My brother worked at GNC, they paid like 7 dlls/hour. He worked like 4 months then he quit. He said its was cool because of the ''huge discounts'' ( sarcasm ) they give you, but he don't recommend working there because managers are such a coc*suc*ers and they put pressure on you to buy all the stuff ( muscletech and GNC brands specially)

i had an interview with GNC, i basically applied there for the same reason as any of us would, get free supplements, because you do, anything brought back u can claim and you get 30% discount not including goldcard that doesnt apply to u if u work there. After my interview and meeting the manager im glad i didnt land that job, i could probably make friends with people who work there and just bum supps off them anyways with a little motivation.

I worked at a Vitamin World for several years. I enjoyed working (alot of this was because I had a really good boss who allowed me to work when I wanted too). It can be pretty boring at times (I usually just sat around and read magazines so it wasn't that bad) and some managers may make you do a lot of busy work when you do not have customers. But if you enjoy talking supps and nutrition with a wide variety of people and genuinley like helping others then it's pretty enjoyable).
I quit b/c I'm finishing up college and working out vitamin world isn't really a great resume headline so it was time to begin working in my industry.
Pay varies but everyone gets some form of commission ( how much you make in commission depends on 1. if you push products and 2. how busy your store is). Hourly rates are as follows (generally):
Associate - $6-9 per hour + commission
Asst Manager - $8-11 per hour + commission
Manager - Unsure

if your just looking for a job that will pay decent may wanna look into a call center job. i work for a cable company in tech support making 11/hr starting out and i usually play on the internet most of the day. ive gotten to the point to where i help the new people when they come out of training and in 5 week "nesting" periods i just answer questions and try to stay entertained. i enjoy my job considering but everyone is gonna be a little different.
