I'm one of the lefties who generally stands pretty firm with Israel. But it's quite clear that the majority of support in the west is heavily palestine biased. US and UK mainstream political parties are literally losing not-insignificant numbers of voters over this right now. I don't know a single person IRL other than Jews who are supporting Israel.

How does Israel simultaneously
1) Eliminate a terror group who is committed to eradicating Israel regardless
2) Minimise Palestinian casualties in any military operations
3) Regain at least enough favourability among the current Zeitgeist that western govts won't be forced to abandon their commitments

Or will they just say **** it, we have nukes, we'll go it alone?

Israel should do what it is currently doing. Tell civilians where not to be, and destroy any and all military assets in those regions.

I don't foresee Israel surviving as an independent state in the next 100 years for the following reasons:
a) The Arab states (and the Muslim world) are committed to the removal of the Jewish presence from "Islamic lands". There is no compromise on this basic principle and never will be.
b) The Arabs have the luxury of time; just like the Crusades, they will wait centuries if need be, but they will ultimately prevail in taking back what they consider to be their land. (Colonialism narrative)
c) While the Muslims are committed to their cause, the same cannot be said about the Jewish people. They have many different feelings, ideas, and divisions about the whole conflict.
d) The youth of Israel will not want to live in a climate of continued conflict/tension and move to different countries around the world. Israel's population will dwindle over time. The Arab population will keep growing.
e) The religious commitment is not as strong among the younger Jews compared to their elders and certainly not as strong as Muslims.

Israel is just gonna continue doing what they are doing. It isn't right, but Hamas essentially declared total war by attacking civs so brazenly. Israel will rationally retaliate against civs as well. It's disgusting and sad, but it is not unexpected. This is how war works. I'd like to see the US take a more principled approach in promoting negotiations to prevent a full scale war. But again, what we can expect is that the US will rationally side with Israel. It's a chit situation.

In 100 years, if human development continues, Islam in its current extreme form (seen in certain areas of the Middle East) will cease to exist, much like how historical Christian extremism has largely been eliminated.
