I member a thread recently of you saying you had a 3080 or a 3080ti
Seems pretty weak breh. Honestly I expected you to have a 4080 or a 4 series card at the minimum since you're a Pccellprick. Any reason why you havnt upgraded? will you upgrade to a 5 series when it's out? or will you keep limping with that 3 series card.
lmk because you're legit my role model for pc builds and as a poverty 3080ti owner, I'm kinda desperate to upgrade but still holding out for the 5 series. If you dont upgrade... I dont upgrade.

5090 crew next Gen maybe. Idk I just don't game as much as I used to and even the artwork I do doesn't really need more either. Most of gaming is 1440p.
When i did this pc it was covid time
I had to buy a whole pre built pc from nzxt just to get a 3080ti gpu. Nzxt was one of the few companies that let me pick every component. Almost immediately I stripped the entire PC and rebuilt it.
The struggle was real and I generously overpaid to turn this:

sheeeit.
Can feel the need to buy a pre-built pc to get a 3080ti and going the extra mile to change the components lmfao.
Well at least now I know I'm not crazy enough to change from a 3080ti to a 5090 when it releases. Current build is already putting in a chit ton of work (legit surprised even with my piss poor 3700x cpu srs) and I know that even if I dont upgrade, I can least last until 2027 with my build while still making consolecels cry.Sig line can't be a novel

Burnerbrah tricked me into thinking a 3080ti was a goat gpu .... never forget.
Jokes aside, 3080ti is an absolute beast and i'm already mogging all the consolecels or anything thrown my way SRS. It may not have frame-gen or DLSS 3.0, but I'm already hitting higher ceilings of performance than I do on consoles. I just end up buying games on my console for the majority of the time because I'd rather jujst play on the tv than drag my cpu to the tv room lol ... so jokes on me I suppose.
and honestly honestly, him and me having a 3k series card is already putting us ahead of probably like 95% of people .... no cope.Sig line can't be a novel

I'm going to put a ps5pro in my next pc for maximum gains
Yeah it's been a solid card for most of what I play
Not having frame gen or dlss 3 has been the biggest drawback esp when I was balls deep into cyberpunk. That stuff makes a massive difference for these new demanding/poorly optimized games.
I don't upgrade every gen, my previous card to the 3080ti was the 1080ti.Last edited by freeburn; 05-25-2024 at 09:34 AM.

Lol yeah it's still top echelon. Most people on PC are still rocking stuff with 2series and under. It's wild to me people feel the need to upgrade to every new series. When I upgrade I like to feel a like a made a fairly beefy one. Not just a res or small fps bump but some transformative new tech. When I get the pro console I want to see at least a sharp 1440p in performance mode with that PSSR upscaling to 4k, and slap on some decent raytracing which I haven't experienced yet. I expect stuff like Alan Wake 2 or FF16 to have a transformed experience otherwise I wouldn't bother.
Man I'm just glad we'll be getting some decent upscaling on console for a change rather than poverty checkerboard they've been using since PS4 pro.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Probably not in terms of brute force but I think the PSSR upscaling along with consoles simply having the "lite" version of games will deliver a fairly similar result. Here's an example, I've been watching Ghost of Tsushima on the most powerful PC available. It definitely looks crisper but not a crazy difference from the PS5 version. Yet for some reason it's topping off at 90fps. If said PC was running the PS5 version at native 4k it would probably be 300fps lol

The key to pc upgrading is knowing what you need to hit the targets you want from your games
I mostly just play apex/fps.
If I'm getting the max fps my monitor allows already in the game i play the most, I don't need to upgrade. So it really comes down to: is a xx90 series card worth it for the rare occasion I get sucked into a game like cyberpunk that is basically also a tech demo?
Ask me right now, no it's not. Ask me a few months ago when I couldn't put cyberpunk down, yeah it would have been.
If you're a single playercel then the best card is worth it because alot of that immersion comes from the visuals. For me being a sweat lord, its tougher to justify. I play apex on stretch resoltion 16x10 because if "feels" better lmaoSometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

I mean also as much as I criticize Sony and ms and consoles in general, I'm also not eager to throw my money at nvidia. The 4 series was overpriced, 4090s were melting and chit, really seemed like the perfect generation to skip.
Even now, I have pc products from companies I wouldn't buy from again. As much as I love rgb I am done with the corsair products after this build. I'll go no rgb at all before I sign myself up for another few years of icue software. I should be supporting better companies tbh.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Diminishing returns at this point in trying to go for hyper realism. I don't necessarily need my game to look as realistic as a movie. Take some of the better looking games this gen, Alan Wake 2, Hellblade 2 etc and have them look crisp on a 4k TV and run smoothly and I'm more than content.
What I'm most looking forward to is improvements that would advance gameplay and immersion. An example we recently saw was in Dragon's Dogma 2 where you aren't confined to a fixed arena to fight a dragon. It could follow you into a town and start wreaking havoc. I wanna see more of that happening, more NPC AIs to have them react in a believable way where most would run, some may fight back etc.
In Horizon, enemy machines are confined to sites where they just walk around in a small path in a specific area. Something I always wished for ever since the first trailers, which depicted this btw, is machines freely roaming the land, sometimes in herds etc. Can't help but wonder how much more dynamic it would be to have that in the actual game where you're minding your biz picking berries and suddenly you hear the thump of a giant machine around the corner.
Right now we just don't have that complexity in AI and CPU power to allow for that but it's one improvement I'm most looking forward to.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Didn't mention destructive environs in my post. Don't really care for that in a story game because some locations are important for a story. I can't level a small town if a big part of the story happens in that town. It's more about AI and having NPCs react to more dynamic situations.
Here's an example. In FF Rebirth, you have to start a quest by going to a specific spot, find a specific NPC that tells you what to do. You go to a specific location and accomplish the task in a specific way. There's some games that give you a good/bad agency which will change how NPCs perceive you. Maybe they think you're dangerous? What if the NPC doesn't have a set location? What if they assign you different tasks according to your renown/skill level or other characters you keep as friends? What if there's multiple ways to resolve the conflict? What if they're dissatisfied with the result and pay you less, refuse to pay, or send someone out later to get you because you pissed them off? What if by helping them out you upset another person or group?
There's so many ways to improve current gaming. Maybe that chit can be slightly possible today but you're not gonna fit all that stuff in a full game. Baldur's Gate does this to some extent but it's still in its infancy compared to the possibilities. Not to mention BG3 took many years and a limited release to the public for years before the final version which is still buggy to this day.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
