My family never went on the dole, we had a week that I still remember when we literally ate wonderbread with mustard because could not afford anything else.
Parents had to swallow their pride of being legit engineers to lowly min wage workers to feed the family.
Never asked for handouts.
Never committed crimes, always felt like it was a privilege to come to Canada.
Parents had high expectations, and it paid off in better career, salaries for their kids
To this day I consider myself a visitor and pick up trash in public left by other people.

And now we are put on the same pile with these uneducated, low caste, people whose only motivation is to come here and get on the handout system.

We only had one East Indian in my entire school back in the 60’s . Ashok used to drive me crazy , as he always got straight A’s , and never took homework home . We would take turns going to each others house at lunch time , meet the parents etc.
He eventually went to university in Calgary and is now the minister of agriculture in India .
