Question about making Big Boom Noises in the Gym

On your last rep when you deadlift, do you just drop the bar on the ground, or do you bring it down like you were going to do another rep? Also if your going for a max on deadlift, is it neccessary to place the weight on the ground rather than drop it?

When you are going heavy in the Deadlift, you may want to bang that last negative down. Drop it on the floor like John Bernor does? Ummm No. I don't

If it's not crowded, and you got bumper plates - it's probably okay at a gym dominated by competing powerlifters...BUT

If you've got complete control over the weight, you should be able to set it down with an acceptable level of noise without drawing any negative attention to yourself. Be polite and respect the equipment.

I lower the bar under control, so it might as well be 135. I don't want to be disruptive in a commercial gym or be the one who cracks the bar. The downside is it probably costs me an extra couple of reps.

Only time I've ever made a crash boom noise in the gym was when my grip gave in on a deadlift.

I was more embarrassed that my grip gave in though not the noise it made.

In the privacy of your own home...Bang Away!!

In a commercial gym.....Respect others rights to work out too without undue distractions....You also take the risk of damaging the equipment.

--The proper plural form of the Latin adjective biceps is bicipites, a form not in general English use. Instead, biceps is used in both singular and plural (i.e., when referring to both arms). The form bicep [sic], although common even in professional contexts, is considered incorrect. (from Wikipedia)

The only appropriate setting for that is a powerlifting competition. Besides, the negative part of the lift is just as important, why neglect it?

no, its not ok. Lower it under control, unless you look that the powerlifter in the video, then do whatever you want.

I lower it responsibly, as well.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

+1 on both accounts. I was at a point where I was pretty much relying on my lifting hooks, and it tear through the cloth, cut my hand, and made a loud boom. Thankfully the gym was relatively empty.

I can only speak for the Federation I lift regularly in: WNPF.

There the rule is that you must lower the weight and not drop it. If you drop it, you are told at the rules briefing before the contest, you will not only have that lift red-lighted, but you will be thrown out of the hall!

Still, the Deadlift comes crashing down under control, and it is accepted.

In the warmup room, we are asked to put the pads down under the bar before starting. I have seen many a 500+ lb Deadlift dropped pretty heavily there. I've competed in the same hotel a couple of times, and they still have a floor, and let us drop the weights.

I put my Deadlift down so silently once, one of the judges got a kick out of it!

We are allowed to lower the weight down pretty heavily in the gym I train regularly in.

When I visit a commercial gym, I refrain from banging.

I imagine John was in a training facility, which allowed him to drop the 770 in the video above (insane )!
