But because of the fact that it's tied to one console, the overhype is unreal.


Both games are the same

Simple story
Simple passable gameplay
Both games are doing the bare minimum when it comes on these fronts, but just rely on one unique twist to sell them (Playing as a cat or having talking guns)
Both rated highly (apparently reviews matter now especially if it's an xbox console only exclusive lmao)

There have been other day 1 games pass games that are much better games that didn’t blow up like this one.

And people were hyping up stray all over the place as well. Because they associated it with PlayStation. The same people dismissing stray on the xbox side would be hyping it if it launched on game pass and was a timed Xbox exclusive. And then the ps fanboys would be dismissing stray in the same way Xbox fanboys were.

Yeah that Rick and Morty game... I looked at the beginning of it up until he had to teleport from his neighborhood or whatever and didn't even smile. It's definitely humor for reddit stoners.

Combat looked simple too but I didn't really delve deep enough to know for sure. I just found the game itself corny.

Bolded is where I think Stray could have been a rather interesting take on the platformer genre had it not been on rails.

Cats are extremely nimble, which would lend well to a pretty creative way to handle platforming, but they're still capable of screwing up.

The only bits I've seen on Youtube that I found remotely amusing were by virtue of recognizing the voice actors/cameos, but even then the writing was really not cutting it.

As for combat, I saw this in my recommendations and simplistic is a fitting way to put it, and not in a positive manner:


The whole Rick & Morty-but-a-game shtick goes too far in the gameplay department if your primary weapon is a pew-pew gun like a cartoon.

At first the whole thing reminded me vaguely of Borderlands as a shooter with humor that certainly isn't going to work for everyone, but at least Borderlands has the gunplay backing up the writing, where this seems like the opposite where it's heavily leaning on the writing over gameplay.

Both games are on the shorter side following the main path though. High on life being 20 hours with its incredibly simplistic combat and platforming probably makes it far less bearable compared to the shorter side of Stray where the simpler aspects and shorter run time serve it well. Agreed on Stray receiving goty being overhyped though.
