I’ve always been a drink water only person while training, except in my strongman days training events outside murders you, so I would drink Gatorade.
I’m now thinking the calories and sugar will be very beneficial for performance, recovery and growth in bodybuilding training.
Are you drinking any sports drinks like BodyArmor etc.?
I’d be interested in what college athletes are drinking, I did a search and got results of cherry tart juice?
I’m not talking about energy drinks that get you all jacked up or anything.

My main problem is my jokes don’t always land but I’m working on it. As far as your question, when lifting I have never used anything more than water. But since covid I have gotten much more interested in endurance training; spartan, triathlon, biking, etc. A rule of thumb I follow is if I know I’m losing more than 2% bodyweight training, then I use some sort of electrolyte powder. I usually drink it 90-120 mins before training, usually Pedialyte.

I usually eat some bread or bagel during the lifting if I’m doing intense PR stuff for over an hour.
I sometimes consume honey pre workout if I eat raw garlic, but I’m going to get an extra jar of honey to use inbetween sets.

I don't recommend any athlete go for gatorade. They always overdrink that crap, it's sticky, it's nasty in coolers, and I just don't see any performance benefit. A little salt and squeeze of lemon or cucumber in the water for those who "hate" plain water. For athletes who do a lot... grabbing honey packets seems to be an easy thing.

Years ago, when I used to work outdoors rather than desk work these days, a bunch of my colleagues were ex Marines and ex special forces and many had worked "babysitting" geologist oil surveyors (safety staff due to the challenging mountainous terrain and some, erm.. security difficulties).
A couple of guys had, totally independently told me to Never Ever drink isotonic sports drinks, they both said that it's bad for you and encourages kidney stones and if you are somewhere hot (or endurance exercising very hard for a long time on a regular basis and you're a salty sweater) then drink plain water and take salt tablets given to you -- following the instructions. But don't drink "sports" stuff with salts in when you don't need it. Drink water!
Conclusion: drink water. Maybe just sometimes a sports drink if you must but not as a habit. If you need salt tablets/capsules then buy some (see Amazon for example).

So for the longest time real lifters on here said bcaas were a waste of money, but for 20-25 bucks and 40 servings i said what the hell.
I still drink this because it allows me to go longer with short rest periods and for close to 2 hours 3-4 times a week.

Kidney stones is definitely a no go. I really don’t like that fruit tasting stuff, it also makes drinking water afterwards funky.
I think I’m gonna just to for drinking honey while lifting, it’s a lot more calories and sugar and more natural. No Brainer there, 60 friking calories a tablespoon.Autec ights Sig evy Sel and Hav Hans and riss of Stee

I drink 1.5 gallons of water a day, but I have a friend who gets me these sugar free C4 drinks once in a while just to be nice. They are pretty good do drink before a big workout on the weekend. I can feel the energy/pick me up from them.

Bumping this with a discovery that will most likely offend Cass and other sugar police! Actually, I’m offended by you LOL because you will not see that this is ONLY being utilized for training purposes which will make me better, this is NOT, “well, it worked, so I’m gonna go live off sugar” attitude.
I now will keep a bottle of juice whether it’s body armor, cherry juice or just plain OJ.
Here’s my discovery-
I’m been stuck on one-arm barbell presses 60# I can’t get a good 10-reps on, even with using body English cheating, I tried a heavy single with close to 70# first and still couldn’t get 10reps with 60#, I tried eating honey, didn’t work.
Now let me tell you 10reps with one arm is hard enough, then you gotta hit the other arm, this exercise destroys your core.
I chugged down a sports drink before a heavy single with 70# for ea arm, then chugged more before both my 10rep attempts.
The outcome-
61# x12 right arm
61# x13 left arm (did more with weaker arm).
This does not mean I’m gonna chug juice every training session, but only when it’s needed. A 20 rep farmer deficit dead/squat be one I’m gonna try this on!Autec ights Sig evy Sel and Hav Hans and riss of Stee
