TNA Against All Odds (2007) Review

Starts with a hilarious promo package about Christian being an instant classic “greater than sliced bread”

Team 3D vs LAX - Little Italy Street Fight:
Good hardcore opener. Hernandez flies over the top rope hit in face by Devon with a chair, random strippers dancing, Homicide used a pizza cutter on Brother Devon busted him open badly. Brother Ray uses a cheese grater on Homicide. The Latino Nation run in with Konan in a wheelchair to help LAX win - really good hardcore match.

Jeremy Borash interview with Austin Starr (Aries). Bob Backland appears in the background and interrupts.

Austin Starr vs Senshi (Low Ki/Kaval):
Ok match, afterwards Backland comes out and puts him in the cross face chicken wing and takes Starr away.

Backstage promo with Christian Cage, Tomko and Scott Steiner. Tomko and Steiner bicker and Steiner wants him to clean his sunglasses.

Christy Hemme vs The Big Fat Oily Guy - Tuxedo Match:
Win by stripping opponent of their tuxedo. Joke match and Hemme wins.

Promo - Viewing party for Paparazzi Productions movie. Ms Brooks attempts to seduce Eric Young, first part of the movie.

Dale Torborg with some MLB baseball player vs. Lance Hoyt with some baseball guy:
I didn’t pay attention to this and don’t know baseball so didn’t care.

Back to Paparazzi Productions viewing party, now featuring Big Sexy Kevin Nash! Eric Young starts to get seduced by Ms Brooks who is trying to get him to sign a contract with Robert Roode Incorporated.

“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles vs. “The War Machine” Rhino - Motor City Chain Match:
This is a bull rope style match but with a chain. A weapon of choice on a pole for Rhino – nightstick and on another pole the chain key for AJ styles to escape the chain to be able to use high flying moves. Rhino gets the nightstick but Styles low blows him with the chain and uses the stick. Styles gets the key and unlocks himself from the chain and can now do high flying moves. Styles shortens the chains and cuffs the other end of the chain to the ropes. Rhino manages to hit the gore but can’t pin cause of the length of the chain won’t allow him to reach Styles. Earl Hebner helps out by kicking the key to Rhino and he unlocks himself. Gets a table out and tries to gore him through the table by Stles moves out the way and he puts himself through the table. Styles pins him and wins. Really good match!

Back to the Paparazzi Party viewing party with the last part of the movie. Ms brooks manages to seduce EY he signs the contract. Brooks and Robert Roode leave with the contract as EY waits in the hotel room thinking he will score with Ms Brooks. Bob Backland crashes the viewing party and goes on a moral fit. Funny stuff.

X Division Championship Match - Jerry Lyn vs. Chris Sabin (c):
Decent match, good storyline – old vs. new, 43 years old vs. 24 years old, student vs. mentor.

Promo – Robert Roode and Ms Brooks with Eric Young. Roode berates his new employee EY.

Christian Cage backstage interview- Cage says Tomko and Steiner will work together to help him defeat Kurt Angle.

“Cowboy” James Storm and Jacqueline vs. “Maple Leaf Muscle” Petey Williams and Gail Kim. - Mixed Tag Team Match:
Good match, Gail Kim was really good in ring. Storm and Jackie win.

“The Icon” Sting vs. “The Monster Abyss” with James Mitchell - Prison Yard Match:
You win the match by putting your opponent in the solitary confinement cage and locking it. Barbed wire around the ring post, confinement cage with barbed wire on it. The match starts outside the impact zone and the prison cage is lowered into the ring and works its way into the ring. The outside backstage area set up like a prison yard. In the pre match video package Sting reveals Abyss’ past secret of shooting his father with 3 bullets and put him in a coma but he survived. Really good pre match promo for the story summary. Good hardcore brawl outside to start. Throwing lots of stuff, Sting splashes Abyss through a table from a dumpster. Abyss smashed a siren light over stings head. Sting power bombs Abyss through a barbed wire table from half way up the solitary confinement cage. Sting locks abyss in the cage and wins then chokes Mitchell, security comes to aid Mitchell. Great hardcore match.

Backstage JB interviews an intense Kurt Angle.

    Main Event time!

NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match – “The Instant Classic” Christian Cage (c) with Tomko and Scott Steiner vs. Kurt Angle with Samoa Joe as the Unofficial Special Enforcer
If Cage gets DQ’ed he loses the NWA title. Styles interferes, ref bump Tomko comes in takes out Joe, attacks Angle but Angle Germans him, Scott Steiner comes in with a pipe but swings wildly and misses Angle throws him out. Joe takes out Tomko, Angle doesn’t want Joe’s help. Joe suicide dive to take out Tomko and Steiner on the outside. In the ring Angle with the Ankle lock, Cage taps but ref is out, uses the pipe to hit Angle to break the Ankle Lock. Christian hits Angle with the Unprettier, Christian retains the NWA title. Good main event match.

Good PPV overall. Lots of good fun matches and stories.
    4 stars
    RUTHLESS AGGRESSION

I was really following TNA back in 2007...and I remember watching most of those PPV's..ofcourse I didn't watch full PPV's, but I followed many matches...good stuff with Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe rocking it back then....but by 2009 the party was over...

    JUSA is online now
Reading that, seeing so many guys near or just outside their prime, actual stars, it reads like a hot PPV
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
