So one day would be 3x3, the next week 5x5 etc? I agree on the mixing the reps up too. I've found that instead of doing say 3x12 on high rep squat days, sometimes I will do 10-12 on first set, increase weight on second, aim for 10 or more, the same on the 3rd and then increase the weight on the 4th and try to get as many reps as it takes to bring the total to at least 36 reps. So if I got 10, 10, 9, I would have to do at least 7 reps at a higher weight on the last set. Seems to help a lot on my 5x5 day.
Do you find progress in terms of reps/weight increases is slowing down a lot since you've got to this level? Or do you still manage to increase the weight every week on both high rep and low rep days?

yes sir thats basically how I do things too....yes at 34 years old with 20 years of lifting the gains come painfully slow for me at this point...the fun part of training with variable rep schemes is that its easier to measure some progress up in weights/reps on my lifts as opposed to if I was always doing 5x5 or 3x6-8 reps week after week...its the little baby steps at this point i guess..

Excellent work buddy, glad you are succeeding in your goals!- Your mindset influences your outcome. It's time to take out phrases like "I can't" or "I don't have time" and replace them with phrases like "I will make the time" and "I will keep working at it until I find a way that works." Success starts with the right mindset and believing in yourself and your dreams.

and i was so proud of my 430x3...
You are not a fragile ornament ready to collapse into an exhausted mass of goo simply because you squatted more than once in a 7-day week.
It'd be like preparing your entire life to bang 100 chicks in a row, getting tan, hitting the gym, making sure your hair looks right and reading the Kama Sutra, only to realize when you get there that you're gay and cannot get hard in the presence of women.
