The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a nearly $11 billion investment on Tuesday to help bring affordable clean energy to rural communities throughout the country.

The Empowering Rural America program will make $9.7 billion available for rural electric cooperatives to create renewable energy, zero-emission and carbon capture systems.

The Powering Affordable Clean Energy program will make $1 billion available in partially-forgivable loans for renewable energy companies and electric utilities to help finance renewable energy projects such as large-scale solar, wind and geothermal projects.

Good guy Biden. Finally, an investment in renewables that isn't chitty pocket change. Whilst oil companies still suckle billions of dollars, the budget for renewables has made steady advances. A firm stepping stone towards renewable energy.


Is it good to be investing in? Hard to argue that it isn't. There's an initial carbon footprint but it makes up for it over time. More solar power in more homes eases the burden on the power grid, and using solar energy for larger populations lessens the dependency on fossil fuels.


Even without the argument over climate change, fossil fuels have a finite supply but sunlight really doesn't, and better to make the switch while people can still afford energy.

Plus there is a two birds-one stone effect here too.


Biden's initiatives are going to massively help the low income earners with renewables. Energy costs comprise a much higher amount of their income and expenses. So more savings are going to have more of an impact. And when a low income demographic nets a noticeable increase in savings it's going to stimulate the economy, assuming they're not spending it on drugs or chit.


Plus, a decentralized grid is far less susceptible to cyber attacks and other vulnerabilities. It's a major line of defence preventing someone like Russia turning off the lights or some other form of attack, like they've done in Ukraine and elsewhere.
