Okay, serious question with all sarcasm aside...
I have yet to purchase a phone new since phones started becoming smarter than people. Why is it a good investment to buy a new one when you're just going to have to upgrade in another year or two? I guess if you're "in" to everything these phones can do, but what about people that just talk, text, check email, etc and don't need or use the extra functionality? I'll probably cave in and buy a new one soon, but to me, they're still just "things" and I don't understand why people pay so much attention to them, or why they would play a significant part of anyone's life.

Agreed. The eye-tracking stuff is cool, and I think it'll be useful. I'd like to know how much battery life it'll suck though. I'd imagine other companies are going to snag that idea up and build their own versions in the near future.
But yeah, much more like an S3S type phone than a standalone upgrade.

Semi-Luddite checking in.
Once you go smart, you'll never go back. Never thought I'd get as much out of it as I have.
Your post is exactly what I thought about a year ago before I got one.
+ I know you'll never turn into one of those d-bags who is on their phone while their own kid is up to bat. Urge to kill rises every time I see this, which is more often than you'd think. Here Lies the Rant

I've been in restaurants where the family of four or five at the table next to me are all using their phones. Nobody is talking to one another; barely touching their food. I think I pass by fewer cars where the driver is NOT texting or talking on the phone. And there's plenty examples similar to the one you gave about parents playing with their phone while their kid is up to bat. No matter where you go, everyone has their face buried in their fcking phone now. It sure seems like these things are having a pervasive influence on our culture. Maybe not for you or me, but probably for more people than not.

As much as I talk about phone stuff, I can't stand people like this. Or the ones that constantly have it when they're hanging out with friends.
If something comes up in conversation, like a video or song, and someone isn't clued in, it helps a lot -- or to clear up those situations where someone can't remember some idle bit of information. Youtube and the internet for a quick interruption, then back to the real world.
Other than that, I just use mine for GPS, a nice pocket-sized camera, and an all-around call/message device (trying to get away from standard phone calls/messages and switch to doing it over the data networks).the crew that poop poop poops crews crew

the real problem is that these people are dangerous.... to the rest of us! driving at 70 while trying to type a text message is not the most alert stance you can take. i want to run those people off the road sometimes but it especially pisses me off when i see passengers in the car of these idiots
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

I still have the old Samsung slider I bought used a few years ago. Fits nicely in my pocket. I don't give two sh*ts about my phone, and the only person I even really text with that often is my fiancee when she's in downtown Portland for class.
I'm planning to buy a new phone soon, and I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to get. Probably just whatever looks good to me, or whatever decent deal my service provider is offering.
Again, if someone likes Android or i-phone or whatever, then buy what you like. But who cares what someone else likes? I just don't understand how something like this can be worth anyone's time to debate. I've seen far too many emotional arguments over this crap and it makes the phone manufacturers look like they have far too much power over people's lives.

You're right, but some people will always take things to the extreme.
There was a time when the internet was primarily an educational tool and you'd spend a couple of hours on it checking emails, etc. and then go back to the real world. Now people are connected 16+ hours a day. They take their work home with them and never 'unplug.'
I like being able to check my email, news sites, be able to access Google maps on the move, and use apps related to my work, but I'd never spend hours on it.

I've made my thoughts pretty clear and they don't need repeating. If I could take back those arguments with Vox and PM I would
I simply believe in consumers having a choice. I like the fact that in 2013 if you want to buy a smartphone there are a whole range of competitive products from several manufacturers as opposed to one or two products from Apple, which ultimately means you're getting more for less. That's why I've seen the success of Android phones in recent years as a positive thing.

Polysonic blend w/ yarn dye plaid.. Anyone know how this will treat someone in hot weather?
+Dom: I didn't know that you can download keyboard apps and such to implement into Android's browser. Will look into. I also maxed out on Android Tetris Marathon (by EA), so I need some new aps. Also, I wasn't really comparing Android to Iphone specifically, just questioning its base design that's meant for a cross-platform of phones. I bet the Galaxy is better than the Razr, and on some levels, I wish I got that (or at least the Razr max for $50 extra). I kind of like the design of the Razr though.

SwiftKey is probably one of (if not THE) best keyboard apps. The stock Android keyboard is... okay. SwiftKey saves a lot of time and is much better with autocorrection though.
& I'm not sure what you're meaning when you say you need new apps... new games? Or apps in general?
