how do you know if there is too much saturation of the product you want to sell?
If i type in dodger hats for instance (just an example), i get a good bit of results, but there is no one selling ONLY Dodger hats.
Is that the kind of thing i should be looking for?

ok when you are looking for a keyword you want to search the keyword in quotes. For instance lets say dodgers hats you would use quotes "dodgers hats". This tells you how many other competitive sites there are. You want it to have less than 50k searches in my opinion. Remember it isnt mostly about the product it is about the KEYWORD. That is what is going to get you traffic to your sites.

I checked the in-store prices of my item, and they were all more expensive than what i was going to sell them for, but just now i checked other online retailers and they all sell for the EXACT same price. All of them.
Should i continue or should i just go in another direction?
None of them sell my item exclusively, but does that even make a difference?
Damn, this totally bums me out. I was getting into creating my website and everything....
any advice? Really need it...

Just to update me, I've grossed about $750 dollars in sales in August, first month selling things!! Margins aren't that great, only netted about $250 dollars, but that is only from making about 30 transactions.

My sources are Feebay, Kijiji, Craigslist, I make way more margin on the free classifieds than Ebay, but I target a wider audience with Ebay, and no hassle in using up time meeting people, etc.

My favorite affiliate website is Avant Link -they have many merchants that offer payouts of 10%-20%. Share A Sale is also really nice and easy to use, but Avant Link's reporting is much nicer. All text and articles on my websites are written by various people I got through Elance. I got most for $50 which included 3 full-page SEO optimized articles.

Im having some issues finding a product, its like you have to have an online store featuring all the diff variations (size, colors, ect..). I've had a few ideas but it comes down to being there is just to many variations of the product. This seems to me that there is alot of startup cost involved. And if you do find an item you could sell that is simple cause it is just one variation you gotta build a site for it that isnt corny like the slap chops so people will buy it from you instead of another online retailer that also offers more/other products.

And if this is the case you have to have somewhere reasonible to store the items, its impractical for some 16/17 year old kid or 19/20 year old to store these items in his/her bedroom or dorm. Unless you have a product that the company will ship for you. But to do this you gotta work out a deal with them that you'll sell so much of a product in a certain amount of time.
