avg salary in your state is 63k, maybe that is mediocre, but frankly it's stable income job with no threat of automation and as much earning potential as anything if you're willing to work hard

As someone on the front lines of accounting and the automation initiative, it's going to take longer than that.

Yeah, fking AP/AR clerks will be automated, and so will parts of month-end close, but you're seriously telling me AI will be able to perform ASC 606 rev rec within 20 years or ever? If that actually happens, law is screwed too because interpreting GAAP is akin to interpreting and applying laws. Actually, most of society is fked then because AI will literally have taken over all knowledge jobs if it can interpret subjectivity better than humans can.

I was on the path to god-dom already, but getting the CPA has accelerated that path. I"m now learning some Python to add to my arsenal and hope to open my own business one day automating busy work in finance since I'll be uniquely positioned to both understand the finance and technical aspects of the work. Then, and only then, will my transformation be complete.

That or I make CFO or Partner of a mid-sized company

MBA is not a requirement to break into Finance. I started in accounting (am a CPA) and transitioned to a finance role (non banking). MBA is basically useless for what I do.
