ROFL...wrong. I know, you northern guys think Chicago is the Midwest, but down here, Chicago is as Yankee as New York or Boston.
This poster ^^^ has it right. California, Nevada, etc. are "west"
Texas isn't a western state to southern people. Texas fought for the Confederacy and has a star on the flag, therefore, Southern.

When I think of Texas, I think of cowboy boots, cowboy hats, cacti , ranches and saloons.
LMAO maybe that's not the best/most accurate vision...but um Texas = west to most other southerns.

Definition:
The term "Old West"
The American frontier moved gradually westward decades after the settlement of the first white immigrants on the Eastern seaboard in the 1600s. The "West" was always the area beyond that boundary. Scholars, however, sometimes refer to the "Old West" as the region of the Ohio and Tennessee valleys during the 18th century, when the frontier was being contested by England, France, and the American colonies. Most often, however, the "American Old West", the "Old West" or "the Great West" is used to describe the area west of the Mississippi River.

I used to have to visit a worksite in deep south one time, and we were in a this urinal of a bar after work one day next to the base. I'm a foreigner, with a bunch of foreigners (british), and we didn't get the affiliation of the confederate flag with the KKK in certain parts of the world. So a bunch of the guys though 'cool, I'll buy a hat with the confederate flag on it that I can take back to scotland'.
So this old dude walks up to us in the bar and says "I like you scottish folk" and the guy next to me says "yeah, why's that?" and the old fella says in a straight face "cuz we don't like them ******** neither..." and nods at one of the guys wearing the confederate flag hat.
You could have heard a pin drop in the bar, we were all in complete shock. The next day people were told they couldn't wear anything with the confederate flag on it to work or anywhere where there was people from work.
