I mean almost EVERY single MMA fighter has a background in wrestling, or makes it a staple in training now. Wrestling is good for takedown defense, slams, ground control and so on.

So, I'd say wrestling plays a pretty huge role in MMA.
He will absolutely benefit from being a top NCAA caliber wrestler, especially with his power.

Look at Rampage, Lindland, Hughes, and so on... all HUGE (and successful) names in MMA with massive wrestling backgrounds (before they even thought of MMA). Also look at Titos portege Matt Hamill. Never trained MMA before, went on TUF, grabbed people, took them down at will, and pounded on them. He didn't have the cleanest stand up and so on, but it goes to show you, he utilized what he knew, which was wrestling and beat some dudes that have been training a lot longer than he has.

Does this mean Lesnar will come out and destroy anyone right off the bat? Not necessarily (I don't think he will), but he surely has an advantage compared to someone who knew nothing about wrestling before MMA training.

Wrestling helps in MMA... but wrestling is not MMA.

Being a great wrestler helps in MMA, but winning wrestling titles does not give you MMA credentials.

Winning MMA fights is the only way to gain MMA credentials. Brock is 0-0-0 in MMA fights, therefor he has no credentials...

A LOT of BJJ black belts have gotten dominated in MMA. A lot of Muay Thai and Sambo guys have gotten whooped. Many a wrestler has gotten beat in MMA. The only way to prove yourself in MMA is to win in MMA.

But having the wrestling credentials he does will allow him to shorten the learning curve. Look at Koscheck, hes an excellent wrestler, which teaches you ground control, takedowns, etc which makes it easier to learn jiu-jitsu and subs as well as transition into MMA

No doubt that wrestling is a key ingredient in making a good MMA fighter, but being successful at wrestling doesn't mean you will be successful at MMA. It's not an A+B=C thing. There are a lot more factors in a mixed martial arts fight than wrestling.

Def agree with that but if I had to pick one skill I wanted to learn before getting into MMA it would def be wrestling as its easier to transition to other things, I.E. stand up and subs, but he has no credentials so far but it should be an easy transition if he wants it to be.

I don't think he has MMA cred right now but he has a lot more potential then he would if he was the exact same guy who hadn't been a wrestler walking in off the streets just being big and strong
I'd say GnP would be his best thing
