VAG crew brah checking in.
I'm sure everyone here into VAGs know about vwvortex.com, but the forums there are fantastic for maintenance or any issues or questions you may have about your vehicle.
I use to own a 2001 VR6 GTI. I basically gifted it to my brother in early 2008 when I bought my R32. Both cars are still running well. The R32 is my daily driver. I just hit 80k miles two night ago.

This. And partially due to the way its rated: There's not enthusiast car distinction. And because it is an unfortunate side-effect of building cars for people that like to drive cars hard. Because they can be pushed closer to their limit, they will naturally have a higher susceptibility.

Eurokracy was my first show, I drove over with Scraped Crusaders, was hella fun. We had a 16 person cruise. I stayed at the official hotel and hit the preparty. Was so mangled. So much fun. Did you see the cars rippin the drag? Dat dere red passat vr6T 650hp. There was a rusted out mk2 or 3 that ran 10.10 once, faster than the mustangs that were there
Also the burn out slutt

I was at the official hotel as well, so burnt out from driving 10 hrs that I just skipped the preparty. Kinda sucked that it was so far from the hotel. That VRT was nuts, I was standing on the barricades when he did the burnout and he about blew my eardrums out. The RHD Toyota Soarer was probably my favorite non-vag car there. Nobody does burnout contests like Canada... so crazy. Neckbreaker was kind of crappy but I'm sure they'll refine it next year. Almost got run over by the guy in the Z3 that decided to dump the clutch to clear the speedbumps!

Ya I was kinda pissed at how far the party place was. The hotel was pretty nice though. The sectioned off parking was a joke, I parked in there when I arrived the Friday. Such an inconvenience to move the rope to leave, I just said fuk it and parked a few lanes beside it. Few hours later there was tonnes of cars around mine. That Toyota was pretty nice. I think it was a Volvo that was pretty sick as well. Ya I was on the barricades and closer as well, and that fuking Frenchman kept giving me shiz. I don't even speak a word of French either.
Is your car in this pic? Took this from my hotel window, mines the white one in the first row.

Sup brahs.
So last night I went to an Audi dealership to look at an evo. Saw a nice r8 took a picture. Anyway after looking at the evo I asked the the guy "what's the retail on one if those?" I was hoping he would hit me with the "more than you can afford pal" but he just said "$191k"
Excuse the finger I didn't see the pic until I got home.

Huge Audi/VW fan...
First car was a 1986 Audi 4000 CS Quattro... loved that car. Took many trips to Sugarbush skiing.... Awesome car in the snow. Up there everyone had them.
Had that for a bunch of years... then got a 2000 GTI VR6 GLX. That took me to VT many times as well... very fast, very fun car.
Right now I just have a work truck, but I'm hoping to get a '04 R32 shortly.S&P crew

Nope, you must have been there early Friday. I think we got in around 7 or 8. First night we parked outside the ropes, second night someone was standing there to lift it for us so we pulled in. Never caught any flack from the frenchman for standing up there, I also can't speak it though so maybe something was getting yelled and I never heard it. Looking forward to next year though, wondering if they're going back to the Autodome (which I guess was almost walking distance from the old hotel) or just getting something closer to Napi. Sucks cause the hotel was really nice, just a haul to get anywhere, and a pain in the ass when you can't read french road signs. None of our GPS worked over the border either, we found two other Holiday Inns before someone gave us correct directions to the official hotel. Just gonna prepare better next year!

I assume you're talking about the Civic Si--apples to apples? If so, its a great alternative. Though I seriously doubt the Civic could match the sporty toss into a corner characteristics of the GTI.
You should also consider the more utilitarian nature of the VW, especially if you're near 6 ft. Although the Civic is relatively comfortable once you're in place. The Passat has more room, more creature comforts, but not nearly as sporty as either of the other two.🎥
