The problem I have with Theon Greyjoy, is that when he does betray everyone you wouldn't be surprised. In the books he's described as always smiling and close with Robb. In the show he's a pissed off "prisoner" and is kind of neglected through out Winterfell.

The show telegraphed Littlefinger's betrayal, as well. I didn't recall him giving the "I'm going to fuk them all first" speech until after we'd realized he was a snake. When I was reading the books, I had no idea how clueless Ned was and it came as an utter shock.
Which is why the books will always be better. The show is great but it's being mass-marketed. Which is to say it's dumbed down in parts and they include 5 obligatory minutes of soft-core porn in every episode. This might not be a popular sentiment, but I would much rather be able to watch this show with my Mom (who is a big fan) or my wife (who has no tolerance for me looking at other women). All the violence? That's fine. The books were pretty rough at times, anyway, despite it being a primarily character-driven story. The schlurping and stuff though, while I'm not like crying or horribly complaining, I'm just saying I would prefer it was toned down. Needles to say, I wasn't a big fan of the chest-shaving moment, either.
So, back to the point: Book > TV Series > Movies
I threw that last bit in about the TV Series being better than movies. Movies have to rush 400 pages into 70 minutes. At least with HBO we're getting 10 hours. That's a fine trade-off for a lack of budget. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

wtf is the "red wedding" everyone keeps referring to?
And fuuuuu I thought Ned was gonna be the central character for the whole damn series.
EDIT: wait is this thread spoilers for the series or just game of thrones? I only finished the first book lol

After thinking about it a bit, I agree.
Though dunno if it'll be how you think (physically riding). Bran's warg abilities are increasing at an incremental rate (as evidenced by the scene where he controlled Hodor's body for a short time). By the time Dany crosses the narrow seas (likely to not occur in ADWD, but in The Winds of Winter), Bran should possess the capability to warg into either Valerion or Rhaego. Doubt it'd be possible to do so with a dragon as strong as Drogon.Last edited by Ice-9; 05-26-2011 at 10:23 PM.

100 pages to go on Storm of Swords, and my words will only pale in comparison if I tried to describe the epicness that is A Storm of Swords.
I raged throughout, i was giddy with excitement in some parts, and even one part almost had me in tears. Jamie is alpha, and not the person you thought in the 1st two books. Jon's chapters are full of adventure, Arya is fcuking badass, nuff said. And Tyrion, wtf, he's fcuking crazy pissed off. Kinda felt bad for him at the same time.
A Storm of Swords is hands down the best book i have ever read.

I hate to see the regular thread spoiled so badly, especially when people don't even know they could be spoiling things.
"Well, Tyrion and Jaime will carry the show." Uh, what about Ned Stark? Isn't he going to be in it?
It's like having someone start to watch The Sixth Sense, figure out the characters, and then saying "You won't believe what Bruce Willis is the entire time!"

As I recall, his smile was rather...cunning. Like he was sharing a secret joke with himself; not a warm, friendly smile at all.
I wasn't that surprised, to be honest. I'd hold a lot of pent-up anger in me if my brothers were dead and I had to serve the lord who killed them.

Oh you!
The way the tv series is done, it will be difficult for non book readers when this season ends. It's basically been in the POV of the Starks (and Daenerys) the entire time. No one will care too much when the Khal dies, but people will QQ when the "main character", Ned Stark gets finished."If you can read this and still disagree, fantastic; just realize that you’re wrong." - Lyle McDonald

Oh snap, spoiler thread. My only issue with the books is some of the anticlimatic deaths of some of the main characters. Davos? The Hound? Dondarrion (he brought back my least favorite character too)? Im sure im forgetting others, but those were disappointing to me
