I've sold a lot of stuff on craigslist and bought a lot of stuff on craigslist. Never had any issues, most people are friendly. The only thing that tends to happen are feeler emails from people that never intend to buy it. They will ask if you still have it and then never respond after. Or you will have people that consistently schedule to see the item but never show up week after week. Generally it is best to just get the thing sold so if someone schedules to see it later in the week but someone else wants to see it tomorrow and that second person seems more reliable, sell it to them instead.

To mitigate some paranoia, you can try to minimize the amount of valuable stuff in plain sight in the room where you are selling the item and keep the doors to your other rooms shut so they cannot see much of what you have.

if you have smaller items you can arrange to meet them in a public place and sell it from your trunk to their trunk.

If your rack is bolt-together, you may want to keep a socket and ratchet around so you can help them disassemble it.

Also, always be in the room with them and keep an eye on them.

selling weight equipment has for the most part gone pretty smoothly on craigslist. As other have said- you can generally tell from the email exchanges.
Some times you have to hand hold it seems. example one guy was buying a whole set of pro- dumbbells from me with rack. He was going to use his car?????
I told him to rent a pickup from home depot and bring bungee cords. Afterwards he told me that was a great idea....all worked out in the end.
Now selling audio equipment- thats another story. seems to attract the wackos for some reason.
