@ kert and neo, i've been looking at vintage omegas but it is a truly tough market because there is so many fakes out there.. but that is definitely a possibility of something i might own

Rolex ref: 5513. Hnng at aged dial, really makes it stand out from the crowd. Always loved this watch and hope to own one day. Affordable also in comparison to it's brother the 5517.

I'm looking for a watch that, while still aesthetic, is practical. I go into the mountains a lot, and over the next 6 months I'll probably be spending a bit of time back-country skiing in a couple of different countries. So I'm chasing something that is:
-preferably analog
-must have a compass
-an altimeter would be nice too
-less than $500

Plenty of these watches have turn open cases with compass other functions hidden inside, which is an option but if you are gonna be doing effort to need to see your compass anyways why not buy a better watch and a standalone compass?



Perhaps try looking for a vintage watch, even some omega's are in your budget in that range.

Sifnt just learn to nav using the sun and your hour hand, takes seconds.





In the northern hemisphere, hold the watch horizontal and point the hour hand at the sun. Bisect the angle between the hour hand and the 12 o'clock mark to get the north-south line. This will point to where the sun was (or will be) at noon.

In the southern hemisphere, point the watch's 12 o'clock mark toward the sun and a midpoint halfway between 12 and the hour hand will give you the north-south line

Lmao, I was typing up a post right when puni closed it. Was gonna say to the bloke asking about your PO that the easiest/quickest way to tell between the 8500 and 2500 is the gray ring on the bezel, being thinner and darker on the 8500s

Well the previous thread closed as I posted the Rolex Presidential that I picked up yesterday. So here it is again, my new baby.

BRB, 25 years old and the proud owner of a Rolex Presidential. Just picked it up as I got off work yesterday. I have the money to pay it off right now but my friend who sold it to me also knocked 2k off price if I agreed to finance it at no interest for 1 year. couldnt pass that up.




Its model number: 118238 and it is certified and appraised for 19,500. I have a friend who owns a Jewlery store and he sold it to me for 12k.

Congrats on the prez. Not hating but knocking off money if you agree to finance makes zero sense. If it's financed through a 3rd party they have to pay a percentage to them for that service, and if they are financing in-house what sense would it make for their money to be tied up interest free for a year? Again not hating, just don't see what play he is making there. Watch looks good, looks like very little stretch on that band too which is usually the problem with them.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to do some research as I'm clueless on Omega used market. I have the explorer he wants nib, and the sea dweller but its not like new condition and I plan on buying it for myself lol. Have two of those damn daytonas though, people only want the white dial now for whatever reason.
