I think its dependent on the particular gym you go to. I have a few here in the city of Indianapolis and one is nothing more than a chess club (no offense to those who play chess) but the particular one I have become partial to has more of the "Pick things up and put them down...big scary guys". The problem is that the only other offering here is Golds Gym. In Indianapolis Golds has more of a reputation for being a "pansy house" than PF.

NOW I will admit at one time i DID want that type of atmosphere. Being a dude that was once 420 lbs (now 160 lbs lighter) I was looking for a place that accepted me for "still not being perfect Ken Doll status" but knew I wanted to work on it. I want to beco0me massive. Having done P90X twice, Insanity and Les Mills Combat I now needed the tools to bulk up.....

There is a small group of dudes that set the damn "lunk alarm" off when they grunt, groan or "set the weights down with excessive force"....but who the **** cares?

Anyway. Just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

So, to sum up, I believe its all about the geographic location of the facility.

I am sorry but I am a member of a Planet Fitness gym and there is more to this story than what it seems. The rules of the 30 minute circuit is for those who either do not have time for a normal workout, or for the fitness trainer to teach a class in them. They do have signs posted as well, and I know it takes 3 tries before an employee there cancels your membership. I am assuming you were being watched and maybe warned before. I understand they don't have preacher curls throughout the gym, so try using the back of an incline bench! Planet Fitness does not cater to bodybuilders or power lifters; it is more for your average person who does not want to feel intimidated by these fellow hard core gym goers. Unlike other gyms, they do keep it clean, and there are cleaner bottles throughout the gym for everyone to clean after they use an equipment, which other gyms lack. So if you want to use certain equipment, like to grunt while lifting, I suggest you just join a gym that will allow you to do so. Otherwise, leave Planet Fitness for those looking for general fitness without the looks of "I got more muscle than you!"! Just sayin'
    Yours truly, La Boricua ;)

It's not just for bulking up any more...

I've been really bulky and lifted pretty big iron. I filled out my jeans very nicely, etc. and so forth and I did it at small chain gyms and major lifter gyms. PF is not even made for heavy lifters and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out...then again I really doubt anyone here is a rocket scientist...

PF is for people who are trying to improve their health or just improve fitness and that's a good thing. It doesn't have anything to do with steroid abusing, competition busting gym rats. I am no longer trying to bulk up or compete with my peers and I can understand the mindset of those who aren't interested in all of that bull****. I applaud the smart people who created a space for those who need a gym but don't want to put up with a bunch of meatheads as well as the smart people who take advantage of it for their own health reasons.

As for the guy bitching about getting thrown out of PF, tuff ****. They have rules and you broke them. Sounds like you were being a real bitch about it to the manager too. You basically told the guy "Hell no! I do what I want!" so he did the smart thing and called the law. Think about it...Why should he be the one to physically toss your ass and risk getting sued when he can call the tax payer funded police to do the job for him. Use your brain, man. And, now you've come onto this site so you can waawaawaa to all of us because you were acting like an ass and got tossed.

Follow the rules like everyone else or take it to the ****in curb.

I'm surprised you lasted two years in this excuse for a gym. You get banned for grunting, doing deadlifts or engaging in any form of productive exercise.

Those pansies at PF clearly discriminate against bodybuilders. It was probably founded by some 120 pound nerd who kept getting bullied in high school.

They should have a class action lawsuit brought against them by bodybuilders. That would show them where to shove their lunk alarm.

    Hilarious.

I find it funny that judging someone sets off the lunk alarm yet but by setting off the lunk alarm they are judging gym goers for grunting
