Jason,
You kind of lumped all 5x5 routines together and mentioned Stronglifts 5x5 and Madcow.
Those are two very different programs. As you know, Stronglifts is sets across and Madcow is ramping up. Do you still consider Madcow good for hypertrophy even though it is much easier and much lower volume than Stronglifts or another program that is sets across?Few things are set in stone, except that you have to squat or you are a pussy. - Mark Rippetoe

I'm totally capable of man love. Just let me know when you open up and listen to your heart <3
Next video I shall
I've got some baby oil, I'll make a booty dancing vid and PM it to you
I've never had a MMF 3some before, but maybe having a female there would be a nice change up. Count me in.
I rarely wear sleeveless shirts and tan pretty easy. Its actually 100x worse than it looks in the video. Us southern boys are busy workin on the farm.
Well hold up now, do you mean 40 straight sets, or 40 sets with ramped up weight? You kind of just clumped all 40x40 routines together, when in fact they are very differentTransformation Journal:

A valid point. No Madcows is not as good as some other methods for inducing hypertrophy and it is generally more strength oriented. It can induce hypertrophy certianly but the lack of workload and only 1-2 real working sets make the volume and time under tention with a heavy load too short for optimal growth. I should have considered that prior to mentioning it. To me when someone says 5x5 I tend to think of old school 5x5s and the newer Stronglifts for novices, and completely forgot that Madcows is not a hypertrophy program.
His video is even funnier if you've seen mine first, he has a good go at me. LoL

I can't hear it but I have Meniere's disease, so I'll have to have my wife help me figure out what settings are causing it. I can't hear any of the static in any of the videos, but 60% hearing loss and continual loud tinnitus can do that. LoL
That white noise video linked earlier... I clicked it it at first and thought there was just no audio, but when I cranked my speakers way up I could hear sound a little like the ocean but it was very faint.
You mofos know I was legit def for years right?
Edit: do you think that sound, as I can't hear it, could be my washing machine running? There was clothing washing in the next room less than 20 feet away.Last edited by JasonDB; 08-09-2012 at 03:20 AM.

Didn't watch all of vid because my internet is being slow, but to my understanding you personally prefer 5x5 but with a bit more volume (As in more then one exercise) for hypertrophy?
I'm certainly not big by any means, but I think for only doing SS/Madcows for less then a year, I built a decent foundation considering the minimal amount of volume I used. Half the people you see who do SS (Lawl Mark's poster boyz) look pretty crap."Whoa, peanut-butter does look a lot like Cum." - Alan Aragon

Madcows isn't a true hypertrophy 5x5 (in retrospect I am not sure how madcows can be called a 5x5 as there are only like 2 work sets no 5) while Stronglifts is. Comparing starting strength to a hypertrophy 5x5 isn't a fair assessment. 3 sets vs 5 sets is 40% workload difference and 40% less time under tension. There are often arguments leveled against SS that 15 total sets, even with heavy weight, doesn't yeild enough total time under tention to yield great hypertrophy gains for anyone but a rank novice. The same argument is harder to level against 5x5 as it does provide enough tut for effective hypertrophy.
Correct I like multiple exercises however generally a blending of overlap, not for a natty at least, meaning bench and cgbp are still both chest movements. For the non-novice (as the novice can make vast strides on something like SL5x5 with a few accessory and arm movements added at the end) I would have no problem insisting they do bench, cgbp and overhead press all with 5x5 in a single session. If you look at some of the old school time-tested 5x5 programs from decades ago they often did just that, more than one movement per basic bodypart done with 5x5. My defense of 5x5 was on the balance between workload and intensity using 5 sets of 5 to be just as viable as higher rep work for muscle fiber hypertrophy, but often with better progressive overload as well as the type of systems 5x5s are usually built around (barbell work, high frequency etc).
