I really like the Nivea post-shave balm HERE.
It was actually originally recommended to me by someone in this thread about a year ago. After my shaves I followup with thayer's witch hazel, and the nivea post shave. Never have any problems with dryness. What soaps are you using?

Used my new HTGAM Pumpkin Pie soap and the Autumn Factory aftershave splash last night. Wow the pumpkin soap is awesome and I will be using it a lot this fall. That says a lot, because I'm not normally a huge fan of the HTGAM soap compared to other brands. I have to give credit it though, he comes up with very good scent blends.
The aftershave has a ton of kick to it between the menthol and alum included. I shaved at midnight and it basically woke me up again. Left a really nice post-shave feel too. Overall happy with the experience.
Today I put in an order with LA Shaving Soap Company for "Myrkvidr." This was a special edition they made for the wet shaving reddit group. I will report on it next week!S&P

hey brahs need some tips
I just bought an old gillete safety razor and brush from my barber for 20 bucks. i tried it tonight and i'm sold. its hard to believe these things went out of style for disposables. anyway the soap i got from walgreens (it was the only one) and it sucks, it doesnt lather and smells lame. so i'm looking for recommendations on soap and replacement blades. also i think i'll quickly want a more aggressive razor, so what would be a good next step? i have no idea what i have but it's incredibly forgiving.

Is it worth it to get an adjustable safety razor? I got a "beginner's" razor a couple days ago but felt like it wasn't close enough..
Got this:
http://www.amazon.com/Grande-Double-...e+safety+razor
Then again i closed it all the way. I noticed if i dont screw it closed all the way the blade is more exposed and im assuming it will cut closer. Going to try shaving with the blade more exposed tonight.Positive Crew

There are tons of great options for soaps these days. I'd recommend anything from Razorock, How to Grow a Mustache, or Barrister & Mann. Razorock offers so many different scents and many of them are under $10.
If you want to try a cream, Taylor of Old Bond Street is solid.
I usually shave with an adjustable, I prefer them to fixed razors unless I feel like using something with an open comb.
I wouldn't recommend shaving with the head of the razor not firmly secured. It might increase the blade gap a little bit but you'll definitely be taking a big risk with cuts because the blade will be able to move.

Sup brahs. Just got my first DE rig this past week, Parker 99R and a basic badger brush. The razor came with some Shark Super Chrome blades but I'm gonna have to order some more soon and was looking for suggestions. These blades don't seem to bad but I was just curious what you guys use/recommend so I can check out some other blades and figure out what I like.
Loving this crew btw, this thread made me finally pull the trigger and get into wet shaving. Will add to sig/10.*Misc Med Crew*

You could always buy a sample pack, but then you'll inevitably end up with some crappy blades that sellers use as filler. I'd head on over to Maggard's and buy some blades from them. They sell individual blade packs so you can just pick a handful of blades you want to try.
My favorites are Gillette Silver Blues, Feathers, and Personna Blues. If your facial hair isn't super thick, Astras are a good blade too.

Used a shavette for the first time today (parker 31r), holy crap did I underestimate how difficult using one of those things is..definitely a strong learning curve.
Actually got a pretty good shave (smoothness that took me months of DE shaving to achieve) but got a few nasty cuts, need to watch some tutorials or something.

I wasn't planning on buying any more razors, but oh well. I liked the blade case and it came with the razor.
It doesn't need to take a long time, a lot of people overthink it. I just take a damp brush and swirl it around on my soap puck for 10 or 15 seconds to load it. Then I face lather for another 10 or 15 seconds and I'm good to go.

Merkur Progress is a great adjustable razor, or you could buy a vintage adjustable. Gillette made the Slim, Fatboy, and Super Adjustable back in the day. All are solid choices.
If you want to make it easy and do it all in one place, check out Maggard's starter kits:
http://www.maggardrazors.com/product...-beginner-kit/
If you want to cut cost a little bit you could piece your own kit together, but it can be overwhelming if you're new to it. There are a ton of options for all products.

Welcome to the club!! Can't go wrong with Maggard Razors. Brad and Casie are both awesome and will help if you ever need help on products or anything. As much as I can, I buy from them over other vendors.
