I like commenting on controversial stuff, but I do get a bit self-conscious getting into the middle of a discussion on a post about Louis CK. I mean we're all adults of course, but imagining it plop up on other people's timelines just because I commented is weird. I guess that might account for why most of the comments apparently are just people ridiculing anyone involved, so it's a bit less cerebral compared to what I'm talking about.

What truly puzzles me is why people use their social media accounts to rant ad nauseam about politics.
I've clicked on social media accounts of musicians I'm interested in, no one really famous but still accomplished and respected, and I've had to scroll to find posts about their music because they're too busy re-posting negative stories or ranting about DT. The music posts will have hundreds or thousands of likes and comments while the political posts will have a handful of likes and often no comments. What possesses them to think anyone cares to read it?
It's being churned out on television, radio, news sites, and newspapers 24/7. Believe it or not some people actually want to escape it.
Do they think they're so insightful they're sharing something no one else has already read about or thought of? It's like an illness.

Well I'm familiar with your particular aversion to it and that is funny about the artists' posts. I usually expect the political stuff to just get attention despite not being what the artist is professionally into etc...
I still don't think there's anything specifically wrong talking about politics, and the excessive behavior can be considered a distinct facet. I think generally people being extroverted about boring stuff goes over the cliff pretty easy, and I think that fairly describes most social media political stuff. Introspective stuff about something like sports can come off kinda weird too.
Cool scene on the subject:

Exactly right, anything meaningful can't be discussed in a few simple posts. Usually there's many prerequisite layers that need to be understood. Also it's funny the posts that rip DT that may seem trendy, may get a handful of likes, but if they post about their 3rd grade athlete they'll get a million. You'd think they'd get the message.

Neat.
Who dat anyway? (Owen Wilson? I'm inclined to guess it's a singer or something)
I think Will Smith makes an effort to be expressively neutral on politics. Though like if you look at his kids he might just despise convention in general and surrounding it.Last edited by GeneralSerpant; 10-23-2018 at 04:42 PM.
