They have 2 in my Microcenter, I have everything in cart and can pick it up today, but I've watched a bunch of videos and the 9900k still beats it in gaming (the 9700k does too). Too bad none of the reviewers tested too much at higher resolutions where it seemed like the two chips performed closer to each other. Arrrhhgh, what do

Not for gaming. You will get more out of a GPU upgrade. The Intel advantage is from the PCI-e controllers on the CPU die with minimal distance between the CPU cores and integrated memory controller. Intel's chipsets also have really good SATA controllers and m.2 support. You might notice a difference on a very high end system like quad channel memory and RTX cards running a AAA game like Wolfenstein: Young Blood if you're into that expensive market.
DDR4 will make a noticeable difference after they reach 3200 MHz stable, meaning the memory controller on the CPU's can handle 3200 MHz out of the box without overclocking.
The focus right now is on SSD performance.
Intel has been planning a discrete graphics solution to compete with AMD and Nvidia.
I have been hearing rumors about Vulkan improvements surpassing both DirectX and OpenGL, the cards used to heavily accelerate computing intelligently (not only games) with normal user and rendering (photo/video/3d modeling), and tons of other stuff.
I am sure Intel and AMD will adapt, but Intel is no joke. They will have performance per watt optimized at a premium price. Odyssey will make things more interesting soon.
I went with a GTX 1660 on my last upgrade. I bought a custom PCB model from MSI, put a pair of Patriot SSD's in RAID for the Media drive, and maxed the memory out to a full 32GB within voltage and frequency specification (1600 mhz) using custom timing by bumping voltage up to 1.545v (max is 1.575v on my chip). This workstation is still more than enough for at least 2-4 more years using RHEL.
I won't be surprised if this 2014/2015 build of mine can handle an Odyssey GPU when they release and benefit greatly for what I need it to do.

Sweclockers tested at 4K ultra and 1440p.
https://www.sweclockers.com/test/277...sse/21#content
They have tested BFV, Total war three kingdoms, Far Cry New Dawn, Assassins's creed odyssey and tom clancy's division 2 at 4k. CSGO was also tested for the fps and it was delivering good results.

looks like there might be motherboard bios issues involving the new ryzen 3000 chips not being able to hit advertised boost speeds, which might also be the reason why people can't overclock their chips past 4.4ghz.

Been watching lots of videos etc lately lol. Trying to see if push myself into building my first pc. Prob have like a 3k budget including a monitor. Still on the fence, but starting to feel like it’d be really fun.
Inb4 I bitch out and just buy a C9 OLED and the new consoles next year.SCC - Redskins - Wizards

IMHO: If it's strictly for gaming I'd go with a 9700k and save a few rupees, that CPU will match and sometimes beat the 9900k (in gaming), I'd also get 16GB of RAM since you won't need more gaming, I wouldn't spend that much on the power supply, but I would make sure to get a quality one, don't cheap out on the one thing that when dying takes the rest of your system with it.
Other than that yes, 2080Ti, you want a 2080Ti.
Also a 1TB Sammy Nvme M.2 drive is ~ $200
I recently got all of those things SOJA posted but with the tweaks I mentioned above minus the GPU since I have one and it was ~$1500 at Microcenter and that included a stupid $260 case, some stupid RGB fans to match it and the stupid RGB RAM was probably a little more just to match it as well. All that ****gy RGB and I'll keep it 1 color.Last edited by KilaByte; 07-12-2019 at 10:58 PM.

Just built mine.
Specs:
CPU: Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
Cooler: Corsair - H100i RGB PLATINUM 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
MOBO: Asus - ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI) ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
RAM: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Storage: Western Digital - SN750 1 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
GPU: EVGA - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB Black Video Card (I plan to get the AIO kit for it)
Case: Azza - Cube 802 ATX Mid Tower Case
PSU: Corsair - HX Platinum 850 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
OS: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit
Total price before taxes/shipping: $2954.00
Primarily a gaming rig, which is why I still opted for the 9900k over the new Ryzen 3700X. I know the 2080 Ti BLACK isn't the best GPU in it's class, but if I modify it for water cooling and OC it, it should be fine.

Pretty much exactly what I just built. Hurts to spend 3k on a new PC but my last one was around since 2011 so that justifies the cost in some way I guess
I added a new 82" q80 Samsung TV to it so today was an expensive day (yes OLED is better but I worry about my wife getting burn in when she leaves things on and theres no 82" oled, yet)

Yeah but it was just time to upgrade. The last PC I built was an i5 4690k / GTX 980 setup with MSI parts. It's just outdated and had to go. 3k isn't too bad - if we went for the build earlier in the year the cost of RAM would have spanked us both.
This is the monitor I went with and love it. Smooth, miniscule bezels, beautiful color quality, 1440p and can OC to 165hz if needed. It's also compatible with VESA monitor stands 100mm x 100mm for a cleaner desk.Last edited by Judgment; 07-14-2019 at 10:44 PM.
