Had Karbach BB Vanilla and Regular BB Hellfighter, Ten Fiddy and Evil Twin I love you with my stout yesterday. The Evil Twin was terrible.

I went to a pub called J Henry's Draught in Clear Lake and they had it and regular BBH on tap. The vanilla floated after my bro in law and I got our glasses. At first pour the vanilla was barely noticeable. Light bourbon notes up front but as it warmed up it was pretty tasty. Vanilla wasn't overly done and it was not a bourbon bomb. If you're ever in Clear Lake I recommend this place. Solid pub food and 50 taps and they do growler fills.

Not a fan of Velvet Merlin. How is the Merkin? Best oatmeal stout is Oatmeal Yeti.

i've had oatmeal yeti fresh was a bit boozy, but flavor explosion. this ones thin, bit bourbon up front, but the flavor just fade quick on the tongue. i have no idea if this makes sense,. lol

had one this weekend too and agree-really love how thin it is while still having a good bourbon presence, kind of a nice break from every other heavy ass BBA stout.

Cool. Good deal. I'll have to check it out some time. Not down there a ton, but every now and then. Nobi is another cool little place down in that area.

It was a nice surprise. And the beer selection was better here than at Nobi.

They finally brought Alpine to Texas. Shame I never got to try Duet or Nelson before they were purchased by Green Flash but the beers were pretty decent nonetheless.

So annoyed. Cracked a 2013 abyss to sip on while playing fallout 4 and after hours of play a command menu won't come up so I had to stop playing. Still enjoying the abyss though

That is really disappointing. I had Duet on draught at a bar near me and it was pretty darn good but Nelson was underwhelming, guess I know why.

Couple bottles I got from GF days after being brewed were B+ efforts. The bottles I got from my local total wine were abominations and subsequently poured. Not just bad at mimicking Nelson, but awful by all measures.

Crazy right? Just unbelievable how badly they butchered that beer. I've had it in draft over here (GF I'm sure) and it's not nearly as bad, drinkable even in some cases. Those GF bottles are just a mess a though

PS- ever look into just stovetop roasting? I hear it's just as fine and small-batch roasting, albeit probably not as uniform


PSS- my next door neighbor at my new place is a PLer and in the process of building his own gym. Said I can lift any time. No money spent for gym ftw. Ohio gym prices are asinine, but food and gas is stupid cheap. Completely opposite in NY, though food is still kinda cheap in NY for some things.

^stovetop roasting can work. They roast coffee in a wok over a fire in Ethiopia (basically). I think it would be tough to avoid charring the beans though.

Just get a stir crazy and a turbo oven for dirt cheap off craigslist. That combo can roast coffee incredibly well. Can do 1lb batches easily as well
