INT. BASEMENT-COOKIE’S BUILDING – DAY

A dark, dingy room. Lots of crap stored throughout, with one corner reserved for a few washers and dryers.

Cookie stuffs laundry into a washer. Scott sits on a dryer. He glances down at the water collecting on the floor.

SCOTT
Looks like one of the washers leaks.

COOKIE
It’s the rain. Water gets down here every time it rains.

SCOTT
You should talk to the landlord about that. It’s a perfect environment for mold. All those spores will wreck havoc on your baby’s respiratory system.

COOKIE
Why are you so concerned about my baby?

SCOTT
His father happens to be a close friend of mine.

COOKIE
So let Carlos worry about his own baby.

She starts the washer. Sparks explode from it. Cookie falls backwards, hits her head on the floor.

SCOTT
Cookie!

He jumps from the dryer, checks her out.

Flames climb from the back of the washer.

SCOTT
(continuing)
How ironic.

EXT. ROAD – DAY

A stream of water flows across the road. Eve’s car stops short of the stream.

INT. EVE’S CAR – DAY

Eve drives. Jake rides shotgun.

JAKE
What are you doing? It’s a puddle.

EVE
I don’t like the looks of that puddle.

JAKE
It’s gotta be an inch deep! Are you afraid the tires will get wet?

EVE
Don’t make fun of me.

JAKE
Then go.

EVE
All right!

EXT. ROAD – DAY

The car moves forward. It sinks into the stream. Only the trunk remains above water.

INT. EVE’S CAR – DAY

The car is nearly straight up, end to end. Jake unfastens his seat belt.

EVE
I told you I had a bad feeling! Now we’re trapped in a sinkhole!

JAKE
Remind me to listen next time you get a feeling.

He tries to open the door.

EVE
What are you doing?

JAKE
Getting out.

He forces the door open. Water floods into the car.

INT. WEIGHT ROOM – DAY

Brandy opens her eyes. The lights are off. The place is deserted.

BRANDY
Not again.

She looks at the barbell.

BRANDY
(continuing)
What the hell is this?

She struggles to pull herself from under the barbell. The bench prevents her from dropping her legs and pulling them out.

BRANDY
(continuing)
Maybe I can roll it towards my head to give my legs some more room.

She grabs the bar. The barbell doesn’t budge.

BRANDY
(continuing)
Damn! Someone chalked it with two and a halfs, and it’s too heavy to pull off.

She looks around.

BRANDY
(continuing)
There must be something!

She looks to her pocket.

BRANDY
(continuing)
I wonder if I still have my cell phone.

She reaches into her pocket, removes her cell phone.

BRANDY
(continuing)
Jackpot! Now if my attacker doesn’t return, I’ll be fine until Tyler gets here.

She dials.

INT. GYM LOBBY – DAY

Water pours in from under the exterior door. It spreads across the room.

INT. TONY’S BAR AND GRILL – DAY

Tyler sits with Buff and Vanessa. His cell phone rests on the table.

Buff wipes the sweat from his forehead. Under the table, he repeatedly opens and closes his left fist.

VANESSA
Don’t worry about Brandy. She’s fine.

TYLER
I hope you’re right. She’s been attacked twice already. I’m afraid this thing with your son and his friends isn’t over.

BUFF
You think you know your own children!

VANESSA
Kyle brought his death upon himself, dear. We still have Lisa. We have to do what we can to keep her on the good side.

Tyler’s phone rings. He answers.

TYLER
Hello. Brandy!

Vanessa smiles.

TYLER
(continuing)
You’re what? I’ll be right there.

He stuffs the phone in his pocket.

TYLER
(continuing)
Brandy’s trapped under a barbell at the gym!

VANESSA
I thought you said it was closed.

TYLER
It was.

Buff gives him a key.

BUFF
Save your girl.

He clutches his chest, collapses on the table.

VANESSA
Oh god! Buff!

Tyler checks for a pulse, inspects Buff’s airway.

TYLER
He’s having a heart attack. Someone call 911!

FADE OUT.

INT. CARLOS’S AND COLLEEN’S HOTEL ROOM – DAY

The duffel bag sits on the bed. Carlos paces about.

CARLOS
Where the hell is she?

A giddy Colleen enters.

COLLEEN
I can’t believe how much fun that was!

CARLOS
Where have you been?

She throws her arms around his neck.

COLLEEN
With Lucifer.

He throws her arms off him.

CARLOS
You were with him ever since my meeting? Do you know what kind of a man he is?

COLLEEN
He’s a sweet, soft, friendly man.

CARLOS
Lucifer is evil! He made Black Dart disappear and I think he’s going to do something to us.

He takes the bag, grabs her arm.

COLLEEN
What are you doing?

He drags her to the door.

CARLOS
We’re leaving. No deal is worth your life.

She throws her arms around him.

COLLEEN
You care about me!

CARLOS
I only care about a clean conscience.

COLLEEN
Then you don’t have to worry about Lucifer. He likes us. In fact, he offered to host our wedding, right here in Las Vegas.

His jaw drops.

INT. BASEMENT-COOKIE’S BUILDING – DAY

The flames from the dryer climb to the ceiling.

Cookie lies unconscious on the floor. Scott shakes her.

SCOTT
Cookie, wake up. We have to get out of here.

She comes to.

COOKIE
What…what happened.

She sits up.

SCOTT
Don’t worry about that. There’s a fire.

She jumps to her feet, turns to the flames.

COOKIE
Oh my God!

SCOTT
Don’t worry about that. We have to go.

He takes her hand. They head for the exterior door.

SCOTT
(continuing)
Is there anyone else in the building.

COOKIE
I don’t think so. Everyone should be at work.

SCOTT
Good.

They climb the stairs. Scott opens the door, inviting the floodwaters into the basement. The rush of water knocks them down the stairs.

COOKIE
Where did all that water come from?

SCOTT
Never mind. Are you strong enough to try again?

COOKIE
I think so.

The stairs wash away in the current.

SCOTT
We’ll just have to go out through the building.

They turn to find the stairs to the building engulfed in flames. Fire races across the ceiling.

COOKIE
Maybe we can wait for the water to rise enough and float us to the door.

SCOTT
The water isn’t rising fast enough. If the smoke doesn’t get us, the flames will.

Cookie finds a bucket. She splashes water at the ceiling.

COOKIE
Then we have to put the fire out ourselves!

Scott grabs her, pulls her toward him.

SCOTT
Cookie, calm down! We’ll find a way out of here.

She gazes into his eyes.

INT. EVE’S CAR – DAY

Water rushes in. Jake fights with the door. It won’t open enough for him to get out. He swims to the back of the car where an air bubble remains trapped just above the front door.

JAKE
Damn it! How do I get out?

He looks down to the front seats. Eve struggles with her seat belt. Jake goes under. He unbuckles her seat belt. Both surface in the back.

EVE
What the hell were you thinking?

JAKE
I was thinking about getting out.

EVE
Can’t you see the hole is too tight? We can’t climb out. All you did was lose most of our air and nearly kill me.

JAKE
I’m sorry for trying! What’s your plan o brilliant girlfriend?

EVE
The only way out is the back window. We’ll have to break it with one of your cruthes.

JAKE
My crutches are in the trunk.

She stares at him.

JAKE
(continuing)
I’m sure someone will save us. We’re on a public road in the middle of the day.

EVE
And everyone’s taken cover from the worst storm to hit in months.

JAKE
At least we have plenty of air. We can wait.

She looks down at the water. The water level creeps up the side of the car.

EVE
We’re not watertight.

JAKE
What?

EVE
The air is escaping. We don’t have much time!

FADE OUT.

Relax, Brandy. Tyler’s on his way. You have nothing to worry about.

The water reaches her.

BRANDY
(continuing)
What the hell?

She looks down at the water.

BRANDY

Where’s that coming from? Hurry Tyler. What’s taking you so long?

INT. TONY’S BAR AND GRILL – DAY

Tyler performs CPR on Buff. Vanessa watches over.

TYLER
C’mon, Buff. Stay with me.

VANESSA
Don’t leave me honey.

TYLER
Hang on until the paramedics arrive. Don’t give up, friend.

VANESSA
How could this happen? He’s so strong and healthy. He doesn’t eat any garbage. How could his heart stop?

TYLER
It happens to the best of us, Vanessa. The important thing is getting that strong heart of his pumping again.

INT. BASEMENT-COOKIE’S BUILDING – DAY

The water is waist high and rising. Flames sweep across the ceiling toward Scott and Cookie. Both hurl water at the ceiling.

COOKIE
My life was perfect and now it’s all over.

SCOTT
Don’t talk like that.

COOKIE
I had my dream guy. He was going to marry me and buy me a house and let me have his baby.

SCOTT
That will still happen, Cookie. We will find a way out.

COOKIE
Carlos is in Las Vegas and I won’t even get to say good bye to him. Why didn’t I go with him? Why didn’t I sneak into his car?

Scott splashes her.

SCOTT
Cookie, relax. I will think of a way out. We just have to keep those flames at bay until I come up with something.

COOKIE
Are you going to die a virgin, Scott? Have you at least had sex with a woman before you die? Silly me, of course you have.

SCOTT
Of course I’ve had sex with a woman? What is that supposed to mean?

COOKIE
Uh…just that with your body, you must get it every night…with a different girl.

SCOTT

INT. SCOTT’S HOSPITAL ROOM – DAY

FLASHBACK

Cookie takes Scott’s hand.

COOKIE
Don’t be sorry. You remind me of the good times I had with Carlos. It helps keep the accident out of my mind.

SCOTT
But I feel like I’m taking advantage of you.

COOKIE
No. We’ve both had bad things happen to us. We’re only comforting each other and trying to get past the sorrow. It’s not like we’re betraying anyone. Whatever you’re feeling, let it out.

He pulls her head in for a steamy kiss.

INT. BASEMENT-COOKIE’S BUILDING – DAY

SCOTT
Cookie? Are you with me?

Cookie turns to Scott.

COOKIE
Huh? Oh yeah. I was thinking about Carlos. What I wouldn’t give to be with him right now.

SCOTT
Well, you’re with me. And I am going to get you out of this. Trust me.

She looks into his eyes.

COOKIE
I do trust you.

INT. LUCIFER’S OFFICE – DAY

Lucifer sits at the desk. Chit-Chat looks out the window.

CHIT-CHAT
I don’t’ get it boss. Why arrange a wedding for those two?

LUCIFER
I’m a hopeless romantic, Chit-Chat.

CHIT-CHAT
No, really. You know as well as I they can’t be trusted. Why don’t you let me take them out to the desert?

LUCIFER
They have so much to teach us, Chit-Chat. Those two come from San Tallo, the land of deals gone sour. And someone must pay for souring our big deal.

CHIT-CHAT
Black Dart already paid for that.

LUCIFER
Black Dart paid for screwing me. Someone before that screwed him. As the new proprietor of Black Dart’s business, I must make sure that person pays as well. I think our friends upstairs know who I want.

CHIT-CHAT
And if they were behind the bust?

LUCIFER
Then you can take them out to the desert.

INT. CARLOS AND COLLEEN’S HOTEL ROOM – DAY

Carlos collapses on the bed.

CARLOS
You were supposed to keep your mouth shut and do what I say.

COLLEEN
I am not playing your whore! We are partners in this.

He sits up.

CARLOS
What did you tell Lucifer while you were at his private table?

COLLEEN
Nothing important. We made small talk.

CARLOS
And now he wants to host our wedding?

COLLEEN
He likes me.

CARLOS
He doesn’t trust us.

COLLEEN
Not at first, but I smoothed things over.

CARLOS
No, this wedding is a test. He wants to see if we’re still lying.

COLLEEN
Then we’ll decline his offer. I’ll tell him how much we want to have the ceremony at home.

CARLOS
You don’t understand.

He falls back on the bed.

CARLOS
(continuing)
If we don’t do this, we’ll find out what happened to Black Dart. And it won’t be good for us.

The rising water nears the back seat.

Eve looks out the rear window.

EVE

JAKE

Jake looks out the window. Dirt settles out of the water onto the glass.

JAKE
(continuing)
What’s up there?

EVE
Water. We’re completely underwater. We’re going to lose our air bubble.

JAKE
Maybe it will stop before that.

EVE
And leave us with only a minute or two of air?

JAKE
I’m going to die a virgin.

EVE
You’re still a virgin?

JAKE
Uh…all those times before don’t count because I wasn’t in love…It was nothing but cheap, meaningless sex.

EVE

JAKE

Eve nods her head.

INT. HOTEL-CARLOS AND COOKIE’S ROOM – DAY

Colleen and Carlos sit on the bed. Lucifer enters.

LUCIFER
Time for a wedding!

CARLOS
We’re not ready to get married. We have nothing to wear.

Chit-Chat enters with a tuxedo.

LUCIFER
I’ve taken care of everything. There’s a dress waiting at the chapel.

COLLEEN
We really wanted to marry back home so our family could see.

LUCIFER
Nonsense! You’ll spend a fortune on a ceremony no one will remember. Besides, I can tell Carlos really wants to conduct business, but the stress of your nuptials takes him away. Once you get this out of the way, your head will seem so much clearer.

CARLOS
We’re not going to talk you out of this.

LUCIFER
A love like yours can’t wait. Chit-Chat will wait for you to get dressed while I take Colleen to the chapel.

COLLEEN
When you put it like that, let’s go.

Colleen leaves with Lucifer.

INT. TONY’S BAR AND GRILL – DAY

The floodwaters cover the floor. Tyler performs CPR on Buff on top of the bar. Vanessa watches from the door.

TYLER
Where are those paramedics?

VANESSA
They better get here soon before the water gets any higher.

She moves to the bar.

VANESSA
(continuing)
Come back to us, Buff.

TYLER
I’m not going to let him die.

Faint sirens. Vanessa goes to the door.

VANESSA
It’ them!

PARAMEDICS enter. They go to the bar and take over. Tyler climbs down.

TYLER
They have to save him.

Vanessa places her hand on his shoulder.

VANESSA
They will. Wasn’t there something you needed to do?

TYLER
Brandy! I can’t leave Buff now.

VANESSA
There’s nothing you can do for him now. Brandy needs you though.

PARAMEDIC 1
I’ve got a pulse.

VANESSA
Oh thank God!

TYLER
He’s alive.

VANESSA
Yes, now go to your fiancee.

Tyler kisses her on the cheek, runs out.

INT. WEIGHT ROOM – DAY

Brandy props her torso up on her elbows. Her legs are completely submerged. The water level rises toward her head.

BRANDY
Where the hell are you, Tyler? Hurry up!

FADE OUT.

The water, chest high rises as the flames near Scott and Cookie.

COOKIE
I hope you have that plan.

SCOTT

COOKIE
That’s a plan? Sorry, but I’m not touching you.

SCOTT
What is wrong with you?

COOKIE
Uh…Nothing! I don’t want to touch you because it would be cheating on Carlos.

SCOTT
You’re not making any sense.

COOKIE
This whole thing makes no sense. We’re about to die and I’m freaking out. Is that explanation enough for you?

SCOTT
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re attracted to me.

COOKIE
Now you’re not making any sense!

SCOTT
Did we have an affair I don’t remember? Am I the father of your child?

Cookie slaps him.

COOKIE
Don’t you ever accuse me of that! I love Carlos. Your wild fantasies are your problem, not mine.

SCOTT
I’m wrong then. I’m sorry. Now get on my goddamn shoulders and pull yourself out before we die!

Scott leans against the wall under the exterior door. He boosts Cookie onto his shoulders. Cookie grabs the doorway and pulls herself out.

COOKIE
There must be a foot of water up here!

SCOTT
Is there anything you could throw down so I can climb up?

COOKIE
I think there’s a garden hose around the building. I’ll be right back.

SCOTT
Hurry up. That fire isn’t giving me much time.

INT. WEIGHT ROOM – DAY

The water level reaches Brandy’s neck.

BRANDY
Hurry Tyler! I can’t wait much longer!

EXT. STREET – DAY

Tyler’s car plows through a few inches of water. The water rises. The front end of the car submerges. The car stalls.

Tyler climbs out. He peers down the street at the gym in the distance.

TYLER
The water gets higher the closer I get. Looks like I’m walking from here. Please hold on, Brandy. I’m coming.

INT. EVE’S CAR – DAY

The water has stopped rising. Only a small air pocket by the back window remains.

Jake and Eve keep their heads above the water.

EVE
Thanks for trying to save me, even if your plan didn’t work.

JAKE
I can’t believe that seat won’t budge. Is it welded into place or something?

EVE
You can’t get the right leverage to pull it out, that’s all.

JAKE
On the bright side, at least I won’t survive to testify against your friends.

EVE
I’m sorry about that. Maybe I’m only saying this because we’re about to die, but you really are cute.

JAKE
And I’m supposed to believe that after you lied about your friendship with Tres?

EVE
I don’t care if you believe me. I just wanted to say that before I die.

JAKE
We’re not dead yet.

EVE
We’re coming close. I think the oxygen is almost gone.

JAKE
Someone might still come along.

EVE
If they do and we make it, I’m going to help you lose your virginity.

JAKE
Oh God, please save us.

EXT. ROAD – DAY

The stream covering the sinkhole engulfs much of the road. Only the rear bumper of Eve’s car remains above water.

Randy’s car stops short of the stream. Randy climbs out, gazes into the stream.

RANDY
Is that a car?

He wades through the stream, climbs onto Eve’s car.

INT. EVE’S CAR – DAY

The car shakes.

EVE
What was that?

Randy peers into the car.

JAKE
Randy!

He bangs on the window. Randy nods his head, leaves.

JAKE
No! Get back here!

EVE
Shut up! He’s probably getting something to break the glass.

INT. CHAPEL – DAY

A tacky room. Folding chairs offer seating for any guests. Bright colored drapes cover fake windows of painted scenery. A light-up crucifix hangs above the tiny altar.

Carlos in his tuxedo stands beside Chit-Chat at the alter.

Lucifer enters from the back.

LUCIFER
Colleen is putting the finishing touches on her dress. It won’t be much longer.

CARLOS
Can I see her?

LUCIFER
You know it’s bad luck.

CARLOS
I saw her an hour ago, so the luck’s already ruined. I’m really nervous about this. We never did talk about a honeymoon, and it would make me feel a lot better if we decided on where to go before the ceremony.

LUCIFER
You’re in Las Vegas. Consider this your honeymoon.

CARLOS
It’s not the same. I’m here to discuss business. I feel like I’m ripping her off by staying here for our honeymoon.

LUCIFER
If you’re that determined, go ahead. But don’t keep her too long. The ceremony begins in ten minutes.

Carlos runs from the chapel.

LUCIFER
Follow him. Make sure those two aren’t duping us again.

This wedding will go on because if it’s a sham, those two won’t live to see the honeymoon.

INT. BRIDE’S ROOM – DAY

Colleen models her dress in the mirror.

COLLEEN
Who knew it would be so easy to bag Carlos? By the time we get back to San Tallo, the only Cookie he’ll want is a chocolate chip cookie.

Carlos enters.

COLLEEN
(continuing)
Carlos! You can’t see me before the wedding!

CARLOS
Cut it, Colleen. You know this is just a ruse. When I make this deal and we return home, this marriage will be annulled.

INT. OUTSIDE THE BRIDE’S ROOM – DAY

Chit-Chat has his ear against the door.

CHIT-CHAT
The only way you two are making it home is in a body bag.

He leaves.

INT. BRIDE’S ROOM – DAY

COLLEEN
Don’t be so quick to put this down. You might enjoy being married to me.

CARLOS
Was that the only reason you stowed away on this trip? So you could marry me?

COLLEEN
Of course not! I care about you, Carlos, and I want to help you. Remember who saved you from that locker room prison.

CARLOS
I owe you, is that it?

COLLEEN
No! I meant I feel responsible for you. I didn’t save you so you could get yourself killed on some stupid quest.

CARLOS
There’s nothing stupid about this, Colleen. I’m risking my life to secure a future with Cookie and our baby. The only reason I’m going through with this sham of a marriage is for those two. Don’t forget that.

He storms out.

COLLEEN
I’m the right woman for you, Carlos. I will make you see that.

INT. CHAPEL – DAY

Chit-Chat approaches Lucifer at the altar.

CHIT-CHAT
You were right to be suspicious, boss. This marriage is a sham.

LUCIFER
They have lied to me for the last time.

CHIT-CHAT
Shall I take them out?

LUCIFER
After the wedding. It shall be more bittersweet if they die as newlyweds.

INT. BASEMENT-COOKIE’S BUILDING – DAY

Fire rages closer to Scott as the water reaches his neck.

SCOTT
Hurry up, Cookie! I can almost float out of here if the fire doesn’t scorch me first.

A garden hose drops from the doorway. Cookie peeks in.

COOKIE
I don’t know how good it is. It’s wet and slippery.

SCOTT
I don’t have a choice. Good thing my grip is strong.

He wraps the hose around one hand and pulls himself up with the other. Hand over hand, Scott climbs from the basement.

EXT. COOKIE’S BUILDING – DAY

The fire consumes much of the building. Scott and Cookie stand knee deep in the floodwaters as the rain pelts them.

SCOTT
There’s no way the rain caused this.

COOKIE
To hell with the rain! I have no place to live.

SCOTT
Did Carlos give you a key to his place?

COOKIE
No.

SCOTT
You could stay with me until he gets back from Vegas.

COOKIE
Absolutely not!

SCOTT
Don’t tell me you’re afraid I’ll make a move on you. I promise to be a perfect gentleman. I won’t even walk around naked.

COOKIE
It’s still no.

SCOTT
Where else will you stay? You can’t get a place tonight, especially with this flood. It’ll only be for a couple weeks until Carlos gets back. He’s one of my best friends. He’ll understand.

Cookie searches into his eyes.

INT. EVE’S CAR – DAY

Jake and Eve gasp for air. Randy taps on the rear window. He points downward.

EVE
He wants us to get away from the window.

They take a deep breath, dive under the water. Randy smashes the window with a crowbar. The air pocket escapes from the car.

Jake and Eve climb to the surface.

EXT. ROAD – DAY

Randy helps Jake and Eve out of the water.

JAKE
I am so glad you found us when you did.

Eve stares at Randy.

EVE
You are such a hero.

JAKE
But how did you find us? And what took you so long?

RANDY
I stayed behind at the hospital to cheer up some kid who broke his leg. I only left there a few minutes ago.

EVE
Brave and selfless.

RANDY
Yeah, well I better drive you two back there so you can get checked out.

EVE
We’re fine. You don’t have to go to the trouble.

RANDY
It looks like everything from here on is flooded. We can either go back to the hospital where it’s dry, or we can stay here in the rain.

JAKE
I vote for the hospital.

EVE
As long as you’ll be there with us, Randy.

EXT. GYM – DAY

Tyler wades to the door.

TYLER
Hold on another minute, Brandy. I’m almost there.

He drops the key in the water.

TYLER
(continuing)
Son of a bitch!

INT. WEIGHT ROOM – DAY

Brandy struggles to keep her mouth above water. She takes a deep breath. The water overtakes her face.

FADE OUT.

explain to me exactly how brandy is stuck.. im having a hard time picturing it... if all that weight is on her, wouldnt she be under so much pressure that she'd pass out? or am i just picturing this the wrong way and the weight is not actually on her
