I don't really watch anime anymore, but I live in Japan, and apparently a manga (anime too?) called Slam Dunk is pretty popular here. According to my friends it's a lot better than Naruto/Bleach/One Piece etc. (which you probably shouldn't read in public if you are over 15 years old).

I've put Ippo/One Piece/DB Kai/FMA Brotherhood etc on hold until they start accumulating in episodes, watching them back to back is probably the best way to go about it.
