was it ever closer to the doors? I thought it was over the other DB rack where the gun rack is.

I guess it does kinda get lost in there...

Thanks - sold a few things off since those pics (stuff I didn't really use that much) - looking to add again.

At my old place, it was over the entry door from garage to basement. At the new place, I think it's always been over that window.

The nicer looking units, like Rogue's Echo gym timer looks really, really nice. I just don't need all of the crossfit timing crap nor the $260 price tag. Strangely, even the cheap Chinese knockoffs are $100+.

    Any thoughts on this?

Heeeey I have that Rogue one. I paid $ 195 for it for Black Friday last year, so it wasn't quite as painful. I mainly use it to time my rest periods. It's quick to program, so I can just hit the down arrow and "ok" to start a 3 minute timer countdown (or however many minutes you program).. or just up arrow and ok to start a stopwatch timer. It has other programming options as well, of course.. like "40 seconds work, 20 seconds rest" type stuff. It makes for a real nice clock too. I like this one b/c it has dimming options and also it can be muted (for when my boy was sleeping in the next room). Rogue makes one of the best looking ones.. trust me, I researched them all. I had a MDUSA one back in the day and their remote control was lousy compared to Rogue's as far as ease of use.

It has a clip built in to clip to your clothing but I just clipped a strong magnet to it and attach it to whichever piece of equipment is closest to where I'm working.

    It's nice, but too small.
I really want the advantage of glancing up somewhere & knowing how much longer I have to catch my breath or just what time it is. walking somewhere else and wasting time drives me crazy & breaks my concentration.

Same with the kitchen timer mentioned above.

I really need to get over to your place when it's finished & check it out. I don't need it now, but I'm getting my ducks in a row.
Yeah, it's nice looking. That's what drew me to it. I'm shocked that no one else has made a nice unit.

Another option is to buy a really cheap 2560x1080 screen to use as a timer, since I'll have a PC hooked up in my weight room anyways. It's just easier to have something that's stand alone. The only benefit would be the plethora of timers I can download... it's a real toss up, but thanks for bringing up how nice the Rogue looks. It gave me this idea... I have to do some research now, lol.

Love the gym. Just looks bad ass. Get some insulation in there.
It does get lost, but if you know where to look, it won't matter.
I'll have to do a comparison & see. It's a one time purchase & something I'll use every session. It's akin to having a quality straight bar as it's used so much. Decisions, decisions...

    Thanks man!

love all the natural light you have...one of the downsides of having my gym in the basement: the windows are south facing and would get tons of light during the day except for the deck that sits above them

I think you're missing the advantage of the small ones, especially magnetic. you move them around with you. It's always right where you need it.

I have one. It ended up on the floor. Also, the magnetic plate's adhesive eventually failed, lol.
I just want to turn around & look at one wall & know what time it is or where I am time wise.
For my case, there's no advantage. I'm too much of a bull in a china shop.

Are you kidding? My ex in-laws used to call me quality control cause i broke something almost everytime at their house. I have really poor spacial awareness, at least once a week i cut a corner or doorframe too close and slam it with my shoulder.

My magnet did too, a drop of super glue fixed that.

Insulation/Drywall is pretty far down on my list of house priorities - but it might get done a few years down the line.

I feel the clock timer is something cool and it's used all the time. I probably should've picked up the Rogue on BF and try to sell my smaller one.

I bought this on Black Friday, and I'm really happy with it so far. I didn't have any sort of clock in my gym before, so it's great to have just for that. I mainly use it to time my rest periods, and keep track of how long my workout is. I have it on and use it every single workout, so it's something that's worth it for me. Plus, it looks cool in my opinion.

I snapped a quick picture of mine during my workout tonight:

I just had mine set up tonight as a timer, counting upwards. As my set ends, I will usually look up and check the time, so that I can control the timing of my rest periods. There are different functions, such as an interval timer, that I still need to try out.

The photo was taken at 16 minutes and 2 seconds. The far-right numbers are 1/100 seconds. The far-right numbers aren't actually faded like they look in the photo, but I see that my cell phone camera caught the change from 18 to 19 to 20 hundreth of a second, all in one photo.

I've mounted it next to my TV, near the ceiling. As an aside, for anyone that's wondering, the TV is playing some Pantera, "Cowboys From Hell." Excellent squatting music

    I was going to ask.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Thanks for the pic! I'm seriously considering the Rogue at this point. I can wait for Black Friday, luckily.

Do you have the tv hooked up to a PC? How's your setup for that looking?

When I thought time mattered, I was using this site on a laptop in the garage.

    http://www.speedbagforum.com/timer.html

I imagine there are tons of phone app timers out there for the cultfitters.

Admittedly, I don't know anything about apps since I don't have a smart phone. I carry a Nokia phone from 2003. I don't like the idea of the greys and reptilians hacking my phone. I was forced to use a Blackberry at work years ago. Those were touted as being secure, I doubt they were.

anyone have a hybrid or ever shopped for one?

looking to cut some monthly expenses and my car payment is pretty high for one that I don't love. Also, my commute is brutal - 27 miles stop and go in the morning (takes an hour), home it is 40 miles, half stop and go, other half highway.

I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee with about 60k. Quick searching I found a 2012 Ford Fusion hybrid with 33k - my payment I estimate the payment to be about $100-150/mo less and about $80-135/mo less in gas. I calculated similar savings for a 2012 Kia Optima hybrid.

I know most hybrid buyers do not buy another one - but that is when buying new and because they don't generate savings over a similar all gas car. But that's comparing a hybrid to a non-hybrid, not comparing a hybrid car vs my current SUV. It also appears that some people misunderstand how they work, with the regenerative braking system the gas savings are accumulated in city driving not highway, since the majority of my driving is stop and go, I think I am in the right scenario.

No Atty, an F150 (which last I checked, you don't have yourself) defeats the purpose I am trying to accomplish here.

I'm not much of a car person. Shopped for one years ago when i bought my Civic. At the time, the Prius was around $21-22k without any fancy options. I got my Civic LX for ~$16k. Considering the Civic already had great fuel economy, making up the $5-6k price difference would've taken a long while. I'll have the Civic for 10 years this December.

yea that's what I was saying regarding similar cars between hybrid and non - but for my situation the price is already lower to go to the hybrid and the non-hybrid versions are only another $1,000-1,500 less - that I should be able to make up in 12-18 months.

Thinking if I get this and stay at this job, this will be a long term daily driver and then I can get my Bronco the third or fourth year after they rerelease them.

We have a 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid. We purchased it at the end of 2010.

I was concerned about battery life for the hybrid part of it since, in the central AZ heat, lead acid batteries typically last only about two years. While our Fusion Hybrid does still have a lead acid battery for starting the motor, the other batteries must be different because they've held up pretty well. Our average MPG has gone down slightly since we purchased it, but it hasn't gone down very much. (We get just under 40mpg.)

I did some calculations before we purchased it. As I recall, I figured that the savings in gas would pay for the difference in cost between a hybrid versus non-hybrid version of the vehicle in less than four years. (Actually, I think it was only slightly over two years.) But keep in mind that gas was more expensive then, between $3 and $4 per gallon.

When driving it, I'm impressed at how seamless the transition is between having the gasoline motor running and having it electrically powered. There's no jerkiness at all during the transition. The only way you can tell is by the audible difference between the motor running or not.

The batteries are in the rear of the vehicle, taking up part of the space that would otherwise be a fairly capacious trunk. So, my one complaint about the vehicle is that the trunk is fairly small. It's large enough for groceries and carrying four or five decent size backpacks for day hikes, but it's too small to hold all the stuff we want to bring with us when we travel for vacation. I've had to purchase a roof carrier for that.

I'd purchase another one, even at today's lower fuel prices.

I actually prefer to do Craigslist runs with my wife's Traverse, as opposed to borrowing my in-law's truck. Once you lay the seats down its bigger than the average truck bed, and you don't have to worry about weather.

On the topic of Hybrids, I had thought about getting one years ago, but the added sticker price pretty much destroys the money you would save on gas to buy a comparable sedan. Not sure if that still rings true today, but I would rather get a Honda/Acura that gets 30-40mpg than drive a Prius (no offense intended). I come from a GM family though so even that is blasphemy, I have been happy with my AWD Caddilac CTS

I'm waiting on the Model 3 to be released. I just took a new job down in the big city but luckily it is full time remote. My wife commutes down 3-4 days a week and my old Mazda3 is getting a bit raggedy. I would love to scoop up a Model S but can't justify the expense. My buddy has one though and it is suhweet.

Yea but he was towing a trailer...

yea I'm not into hatchbacks so the Prius and C-Max are out - looking mainly the Fusion, Kia Optima, and VW Jetta - and like I said, buying used, the price between a hybrid and a regular similarly equipped is pretty negligible. It's mainly that they are significantly cheaper than my current payment - plus should save the additional fuel.

Thanks KB2 - that's exactly what I wanted to know.

We also have several charging stations at work that are free to employees, but I don't think full electric is the way to go yet.
