So again yesterday I got a sore throat while doing some eliptical rider. Maybe not sore per say, but feels like i need to keep clearing it, swallowing, etc. Maybe feels like flem is in it or something. Sorta hard to explain I guess.
Any thoughts what this could be or perhaps something I can try supplmenting in or something i can take right before maybe to coat the throat or something? I dont have a hard time breathing I dont think.

A couple of things come to mind. When doing cardio, is your mouth open...or are you breathing out of your mouth more?
Do you do cardio outside or someplace w/o heat? I workout in my garage, and in WI, it's typically in the high 20's in my garage, so when running on the treadmill, my nose runs, so I have to sniffle, then with breathing through the mouth, I get the phlegmy feeling.

Could be anything from simply dry air to indoor air pollutants, dust, mold spores, etc. to people overusing irritating disinfectants to wipe down the equipment to the perfume of that babe working out next to you. Most likely culprit if none of the other causes are obvious is simply dry air.

some people get exercise-induced asthma when doing cardio, etc., and it will bring up phlegm. other than that, chew gum, to keep the saliva flowing in your mouth so your throat doesn't dry up, and keep water handy.

Me too
I get soar throats after cardio. Went to so many docs and nothing so far. No exercise induced asthma. The only thing left is vcd (vocal cord disfunction). I have to go to an ear nose and throat guy while the symptoms are happening. It's common in people who do high cardio or are kinda new to it. The vocal cords take a beating because your not breAthing with your diaphragm but your chest. They close leaving not a lot of room for air. Acid reflux or post nasal drip likes to trigger it. Mix it with exercise and its on. Tone down the cardio, I went from 140-160 down to 125-135. Small meals instead of large meals before helps. I would stay away from antihistamines until after since mucus lubricates the throat while exercising. If you do take some before sip on honey while working out to lube up the throat.. Plain honey not a drink of some sort. It really means your not healthy enough to go as hard as you are. Too big a belly pushes acid up and constricts the diaphragm from working easily. Slow down and diet to loose weight first. A slower cardio burns more fat than glucose in the blood anyway. You should feel good after your done, if not its too much.

I used to smoke 4 POD and cardio and didn't get this. I would check:
1) Your whey/BCAA and pre workout supps -- some people get allergic reactions to this c.f. "whey and fatigue" and "bcaa dosing".
2) Check all supps make sure you're not taking some yohimbe crap before cardio you may be reacting to.
3) Check you're not overreaching; recovering properly; lots af people doing too much get mouth sores and throat issues. Your immune system lowers after a heavy session via saliva tests then recovers so pounding out time in the gym then too much cardio can cause some issues.
4) Check your macros/sodium/fats esp and make sure you're just not punishing your system; too low fats can F$$$ up your immune system/hormones
5) Open nasty-ass gym windows
If you need to pop some halls before a workout something is not right. Go jog down the block or to the park and do some light cardio and see what happens -- then it will be something in your nasty gym for sure.Last edited by Ralikar; 07-09-2013 at 12:33 PM.

It happens, and it's OK... Unless it isn't
I have an elliptical in my home and I was pushing myself pretty hard on it for months and months. I was averaging 30-40 minutes at respectable resistance and incline relative to a Sole Fitness E35. Then I had a period of inactivity. I'm busy, sh*t happens. Anyway, I just got on it, and struggled to put in 11 minutes at incline 4, resistance 14. I had to back it down to 3 I, 12 R about 8 minutes into it.
My throat is still scratchy, but when I was working out it was on fire. I have lots of new found phlegm I'm still coughing on. A couple things attributed to it, I think: It was a cooler room being February, now... I had the built-in fan blowing that cool room air into my face, and I am probably starting to get a cold, and didn't know it because I haven't done cardio in awhile. It's been raining a lot the past couple months, and I'll bet I'm getting the start of a cold. All those ideas I heard about popping Halls seem ridiculous to me. I would never mentholate then take in air at a rapid rate. You'll cause more damage to yourself. Just take your multivitamins, and give yourself a heavy dose of vitamin C. The person who suggested honey was on the right track. Unfortunately heavy sugar, whether it's natural or not, can also lead to dryness and irritation if you then begin breathing rapidly. Honey is better for a throat after a night of screaming out your favorite punk rock songs. Its best used in a relaxed state, not an active one.
