Yes, it's true - I'm finally in competition with punksurfer024 for donations . Coming up June 6th through 12th, I will be participating in what is known as the AIDS Life Cycle, a fundraiser event in support of HIV/AIDS services, and general awareness for the population who live with, or are affected by, the HIV virus. To learn more, please visit The AIDS Life Cycle About Page.
What exactly IS the AIDS Life Cycle (ALC)?
The ALC (CA) is a ride that will start in San Francisco, and end in Los Angeles. The mileage varies somewhat year to year, but this year is pegged at 545 miles, spanning 7 days June 6th-12th. Thousands of cyclists every year participate in this event - traveling in from other states (and apparently, a few from other countries!) just to be part. To give you an idea, I actually put down $350 for the ALC late part of last year, and I was already participant #2,168! This will be my first time riding the ALC, and I have committed myself to raising $3,000 for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. By hook or by crook, that $3,000 WILL end up in the pot, regardless of what the check I may have to sign at the end is!
The ALC is supposed to be an amazing event, and everyone I know who has rode during one has nothing but praise for the experience. I am very much looking forward to sharing in that, while doing a part for charity... and that's where YOU come in (cliche expressions, here I come)! Become a generous sponsor... that area is looking very bland right now. Actually, become any type of sponsor really.
What can you do?
Well, there's always deciding to ride the ALC! If you're interested in signing up, please visit The ALC Website! However, I'm shaking my tin about donations from everyone here. That's right... the link to donate IS (drum roll please!):
As you can (currently) see, I'm nowhere near my goal! In fact, I've only been getting vague promises from people to donate, but haven't seen a dime hit my tin. Of course, I can't pretend I've been shaking my tin very hard about this, so it's time for me to get in gear. Over time, I have built up a decent stash, and some things that I could do without. I will be periodically trying to log on and do a giveaway on my dime - mostly on the weekends! That could include.... well, whatever I happen to have in my closet, I need to go through it all. Of course, I'll probably be tapping a couple companies to see if they'd be interested in making either a product (giveaway) or charity donation! Oh and before I forget... I believe that donations through the ALC are considered eligible for tax deduction (see applicable tax laws, I'm no lawyer). No donation is too small (just as no donation is technically too big?), just don't bankrupt yourself doing it - other than that, go nuts!
Please, if you have any questions feel free to field them . As always, have a great week and thanks for your support - I really do appreciate it. I'll appreciate it more when I'm sweating my way up hills. If I break $3,000 I will be updating the goal, and of course all the money is going to charity (don't mail me money!).

I have enough coolness to go around, just ask me... the thing is that many hetero's think of it as a gay issue, although its a human issue. Make sure you post something in the gay or lesbian threads, probably the over 35 area would be a good idea as well... people dont need to donate much, a lot of little donations can make a big difference.

That is an insane ride, I wish I could do it. You're going to need an offseason afterwards!
Realize that anyone with an affiliation to a supplement company in their signature has ulterior motives when making recommendations. They're primarily concerned with pushing their products. Not your safety or what's best for you.

At today's ride I was the only person who HADN'T done it . Makes me feel like a newbie. After the AIDS ride the next big one I'd like to do is the Death Ride, but that's a long ways off.
I'm somewhat surprised someone is voting down an AIDS charity thread, like me or not. Seems a bit... what's the word?I remember being relevant.
