Need help with Number of excercises

I am currently working out on a 4 day on 1 day off split.

    day 1: chest and tris
    Day 2: back and bis
    day 3: legs
    Day 4: shoulders

I do abs 2-3 week whenever i can fit them in.

My question is for days 1 and 2 where i am doing 2 muscle groups a day, how many exercises should i do for each. Have been doing approx 5 chest 5 tris as that is what my buddy has been wanting to do. I feel that is too much bcs i feel i'm not getting the appropriate time to rest/heal before we hit those muscles again.

    any suggestions would help.

also, i only run this for about 4 weeks then i switch to 6 day split, 1 muscle a day/5 exercises...

    thanks in advance,

PM's are welcomed with your routine.

Currently trying to put on muscle.

You're asking a question that has to many variables. If you're unable to recover from one work out to the next the logical sense would be to elimiate some excercises to recover efficiently.

The number of exercises is not indicative of anything. If you did 5 different exercises but only did 1 rep of each, you wouldn't be doing enough. If you did 5000 reps of one exercise that would be too much.

Depending on what exercises you are doing, how much weight, and how many reps, you could keep the same number of exercises
