The Newsome murders are interesting because of the initial TOTAL lack of national media coverege, despite being over the top brutal. Something they otherwise couldn't wait to get their hands on, but in this case chose to ignore for weeks.

If Zimmerman was really walking back to his car and Trayvon jumped him, then the shooting, by Florida law (TAKE NOTE ******* MISCERS THIS ISN'T MY OPINION), I repeat, by FLORIDA LAW, is justified.

If not, and the fight happened initially when Zimmerman first approached Trayvon, then the shooting wasn't justified because any physical attacks from Trayvon would be considered self-defense based on the fact that Trayvon had the right to defend himself when an armed man hostilely approaches him.

Knocking him down to the ground with a punch probably wouldn't stop him from pursuing. Trayvon most likely assumed that he would have to knock Zimmerman unconscious in order to end the threat. That seems like a completely reasonable assumption to me.

I don't think Zimmerman should get life in prison, but he should be punished. I honestly do not believe he was following Trayvonn with the intent to kill him. He probably didn't even want to hurt him and was legitimately just following him to make sure he wasn't a criminal. Even so, if you pursue someone against their will for no good reason (and there was no good reason), taht person should have the right to defend themself as much as necessary. The aggressor/pursuer should not get the right to self defense over the one he pursued.

It shouldn't have even crossed his mind to pull a gun when his actions caused the altercation. He should know that Trayvon was just defending himself against the threat.
