Thanks for the words.
If you give me some specifics from my posts I can probably give you rationale behind why certain rest periods where as long or as short as they were.
The main reason is that I am constantly evaluating my needs as I continue to expand my knowledge in physical preparation; last year I did not set-up a plan at the beginning of my summer's preparation. So I was sort of 'going with the flow' during the time I had control of my training and eventually got to the point where I knew objectively (based on American Football physiological and game-construction principles) what I needed to achieve and how to do it subjectively from evaluating my individual needs and personal preference. This was probably after I did a test battery around early July when my work and training started to make a change for the best.
Besides that, most often it is going to be that this was the first year I partook in this type of training (Hi-Low, Speed before Weights, more Jumps, Field Drills, etc.) and since I had only myself to account for I was able to keep the rest intervals shorter because my CNS output is not high enough to where I need a 'full' recovery in order to give the same effort in the subsequent bouts (read Charlie Francis and he will explain this).
Also from a General (Aerobic) Work Capacity standpoint I had done no sort of this type of work in my off-season preparation during the previous years; thus, in order to combat the risk of injury, I reduced the rest intervals so that I would not lose my potentiation effect from the previous means during the workout.
In other words, my fitness level was not high enough to support long rest intervals that are aimed at enabling one to maximize their output, albeit in the form of alactic based field drills, sprints, throws, jumps, or weights.
Thus, in a multi-year training standpoint, this year I plan to do a proper GPP block (short rest hills, tempo, abdominal and extensive MB work) and then transition into Alactic Power (with full rest periods and concurrently with a max strength block, a la Charlie Francis 3-1), and then transition into to Alactic Capacity.Last edited by qb0708; 03-10-2011 at 11:07 AM.
