I just thought it would be fun to post some bad advice that we've heard from people that apparently know what they're talking about. This is NOT a thread for things like "HIIT $hi1ts on LISS". No wars here, just funny and wrong advice.
Some of my favorites so far:
"You need to do more abs. Don't run, just do like 300 crunches every day"
"Why do you eat so much protein? You're body can only take like 50g a day, you're just peeing it out"
"You can't get to 14% body fat. That's like, professional body builder body fat"
"Don't eat any carbs. Like zero. Any carb you eat turns into fat right away"
"Why do you do squats? You're gonna get huge legs and look weird"

curl in the squat rack! so you can lift more!
Talk more during training so you have a good time lifting!
Do more crunches/ ab-work, if you are not working your abs hard enough you will never see them!
LOL dont squat it will make you too big!
Get in my way/ in the mirror when in squating, it helps me lift more!
just lift and you will get big, dont worry about what you eat.
lol noob literitureBench=155x10
deadlift=255x12
squat=425x12
t-bar row=270x4

Hahaha. Nice thread.
"Dont eat fat cause it will make you fat".
"If you do deadlifts, it will make your waist too wide". Jeez.
"Dont want to lift too heavy. It will make you look bulky." OK.
"Eat lots of carbs. Helps build muscle."
Just a general comment too. Too many people are calorie phobic especially when beginning a cut most likely due to limited knowledge and/or not researching enough. I see some suggested calorie intakes that are similar to my five year old niece.Last edited by PBateman2; 04-15-2010 at 08:09 AM.

Dont take Creatine! it causes kidney failure!
True story- An in-law came over to my house and noticed that I had a container of Creatine. She then proceeded to chew me out over how I was going to kill myself by taking it. After that she grabbed a sharpie and wrote " This is going to kill you dumb F@#$ " on the bottle.

Yep, I usually get the "don't eat late at night or before bed" from people.
Ones I hear (usually as an excuse not to lift):
-Lifting heavy is bad for your joints (well maybe certain situations when you're doing max one repetition, but otherwise no)
-Lifting in general will make you bulky.
-You must do resistance training on your mid-section for your abs to show.Back at 210, lame :/

I was told this once when I was more of a n00b to lifting,
"You shouldn't take creatine because it's like a legal steroid."
Haha.--------------------------------------------------------
"Obsessed" is just a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.
Food Network is my porn.
Hakuna Matata.
Only "broscientists" use the term "broscience." I'm ok with being wrong, but calling "broscience" on me just doesn't cut it. Back up your claims.

Just remembered another one. From a guy at my gym:
"If you want to get big, all you need are chest and tris. Everything else gets bigger with those"
He also told me he'd been lifting for 2 years so he knows what he's talking about. I've been lifting for 5-6 months and I look and lift twice his size (and I'm not a big guy by any definition).

whats funny is I think most of us when first starting out have done a few of these things because we read/heard it somewhere else. that is until we educated ourselves on what was the right thing to do. Ive changed my ideas about cutting a few times since i first started but now I know what works for me and what didn't.
But some of my favorites
"dont eat after 6pm"
"high reps makes you get cut"
"milk isnt good on a cut"
and anything related to starvation mode

HAHA. I love that you pointed this out, because I think this leads to about 90% of the arguments/flame wars/bad mouthing/and pissing contests that you see here in the "Losing Fat" section.
I think what GoodFella0729 said is right for the most part. At one point or another, when we all just started out, someone told us all this and we all believed it, even if just for a minute. LOL

Some of my favorites, which I still hear to this day, have already been pointed out...
'Don't eat after (put time of night in here). It will turn straight to fat! It's funny how that 'time frame' always changes, isn't it? Some say 6pm, some say 7pm, others say 8pm. Some say don't eat carbs, others say don't eat at all. LOL
Lifting Heavy will make you 'Bulky".... I hate that word just as much as I hate the word 'Tone'.
Don't squat, Lunge, Deadlift or do Leg Extensions because you'll end up with bad knees
Or my favorite from obese clients, 'Can we do more ab work today? I really want to start focusing on my six pack'.... Oh geeeeez!

"don't worry about losing muscle since muscle memory brings it back fast"...
"don't drink milk because it's not meant for adult humans"
"eat anything you want as long as it fits in your macros brah!"
"protein consumption is overrated"
"don't drink diet soda, it can give you lyme disease" {yes, I've really heard this ****!}

"don't take protein powder while you're trying to lose weight because it's for putting on weight so it will make you fat" - go figure eh? not something I see on the boards but definitely something a lot of people IRL don't seem to understand.
