Should i eat less calories on non-work out days?

There are days i just sit around the house doing NOTHING.
Should i consume less calories on those days? or at least less carbs or something?
it preety much makes sense to me...
    anyway, anyone knows?

i tend to disagree. i think that on a rest day you should eat the same amount of calories, i usually eat a few less carbs and add more protein. my reasoning behind this is becuase even though its a rest day your body and muscles are still recovering, so IMHO i'd say eat the same amount of calories.

What I do is just emliminate my post workout whey/dextrose. That takes away about 400 calories. I just started cutting about a week ago, that's why I do this. When bulking however, I make sure that I replace the shake with whole foods on non workout days.

to build muscle, you need to eat just above the amount of calories you burn during that day... any more get stored away. why would you eat the same amount of calories when you probably burned 450 calories less on that day... that's another 450 calories being stored away... peace.

Hmmm, well but keep in mind that my metabollism is ALOT slower on days i dont do anything.
there are days i also go to the store\go to school\friends etc...that burns alot of calories (belive it or not).
The body needs calories to do daily activities such as the above...if i dont do a damn thing my metabollism is alot slower and it makes sense to consume less calories to me...
but keep the replies going because i am really not sure on this.

BTW - about the muscle recovery thing -yeha that is correct. but i didnt mean like 1000 calories less on non workout days...more like 200-400.

Eat the same calories. Put in a cardio session on the days you dont workout.

    This is my two cents...

Rest is just as important, if not MORE important, to muscle growth and repair. I aim for roughly the same amounts every day, but as someone said above, if you eliminate your post-workout shake (for me thats about 150cals), you get a bit of a calorie deficit but nothing substantial

I think uv gotta ask urself how many days a week u take off?

For me its usually just sunday. I do drop calories (450 less). If its just 1 day for u, then keeping calories the same isn't going 2 do much damage. If for instance, u take 3-4 days off per week. Then it'd be avisable to drop calories 2 just above maintainance.

yes but who says those calories arnt getting used? i see where you are coming from, but if your muscles are repairing themselves on the rest days WITH the excess calories, then they obviously arnt getting stored away, they are being used/burned to help repair the muscle.

Guys i read this article today that says you can be in a caloric deficit 1 day due to cardio then eat more then you burn the next day and calories wont be stored as fat...you can only see if you gained or lost weight a week later anyway (you shouldnt weight yourself everyday).
So in conclusion it really dosent matter if you ate too much 1 day then made up for it in the next 1 - it all comes down to how much calories you consumed during that week.

protein synthesis occurs at a snails pace at best... as long as you are eating at or just above your maintenence calories for that particular day, you WILL grow...

when you are not working out... you can eat roughly 400 calories less, this will keep you from gaining fat and having those extra calories stored as bodyfat.

    Beradi's approach makes sense 2.

It's where u keep calories the same daily. On days u workout, the amount u consume will be sub-maintainance. On days u relaz, the excess goes towards growth.
