    Here is something else by Arnold and I been saying the same “you have to figure it out”. This is why I dont agree with programs.

    Now I heard one guy dog instinct training saying that your instinct is to not train hard, NO instinct is maybe you feel like crap but you go in that day feeling like crap but you do something new and end up training harder than ever.

    However you should be careful here, this does not mean you can’t do what some else is doing for a day which is good, you take that and add something to it.

    When I was in my teens a couple of local bodybuilders/powerlifters took the time to teach me the ropes. This is something they preached and I have been employing it ever since. Shocking the body is the best tool in the bodybuilding tool box IMO

    Been a month or so, (standing raises on the plate with bar on back for 50-60reps) I’m always only thinking of the arms/shoulders for extra work when I have time.

    I think I will add calf raise to my compound movement I posted the other day.

    I will also start walking up the steps on tippy toes.

    Arnold had the same problem coming up, he didn’t do calf work, but when it was time, he hit them everyday and got results.

    Close to useless.

    He tells us that doing the same over and over will lead to stagnation. No **** Sherlock.

    But from a man with enormous experience and expertise, he offers precious little advice on the tactics that did and didn't work for him and others.

    Maybe the short was taken from a longer bit of advice that's useful, but as it stands... useless!

    Probably not Arnold's fault, he seems quite a helpful guy by nature. I'm guessing whoever edited that is at fault!

    IMO it is volume that drives the bodies long term growth. Long term progress will demand more volume, and your capacity to adapt to the volume over time. So a lot of volume but below high intensity can work. Then, push up the intensity with heavier weight again.


    Have you tried a deload week? This helps if you feel your gym sessions are losing passion and you're just running through the motions and same exercises. You train at half the weight you usually use, and come back a week later.

    IMO, if you think you are going to deload that day, and start feeling stronger instantly or try something new, then go as hard as you can, safely.

    IMO it is volume that drives the bodies long term growth. Long term progress will demand more volume, and your capacity to adapt to the volume over time. So a lot of volume but below high intensity can work. Then, push up the intensity with heavier weight again.


    Have you tried a deload week? This helps if you feel your gym sessions are losing passion and you're just running through the motions and same exercises. You train at half the weight you usually use, and come back a week later.

    I have used deloads in the past, they work. It's a tool that many bodybuilders use to enhance long-term progress. It works!

    I have been running PPL for quite a while and do one PPL heavy low rep session, followed by the next PPL low weight high rep. Rinse and repeat. I haven't really felt the need to deload on this but I have taken some time off occasionally.

    Not a deload but there was a time that I took July and August off every year, actually planning on taking an entire month off this year..

    Everything works, until it doesn’t, for hypertrophy you really should do everything out there and invent your own ways too.

    The only that does not work which I just read here is taking off a month, that won’t do anything for hypertrophy.

    I haven’t conventional dead lifted in over 3-weeks now because I’m healing a low back issue I got from maxing out. Instead of resting I’ve been doing Jefferson Lift but deloaded because my back feels pain as I approach the 400# mark, but it’s getting better every week.

    I also deloaded when the tendinitis was really bad, never stopped though, so I’m still growing!

    Taking time off has absolutely nothing to do with age, nice try though. Let me enlighten you a tad to the benefits of time off so sit back with a coffee, get that reading finger out and enjoy



    Personally, for a few years I used to take the summers off because the young fellow was out of school and we would spend the summer months on adventures creating memories. I don’t regret one second of it and taking the time off didn’t hinder me but enhanced my life and lifting goals.

    Kids grow up and move on, the weights are in the gym forever. I also came back stronger than ever. Most people who take time off do.

    How many kids do you have, Twiggy?

    Did you get to spend quality time with them?



    Still working out the logistics for this summer's adventure (originally scheduled for next year) and if it comes through, I will take a month off, it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Fingers crossed. The gym will still be there upon my return.

    I get it, it appears that your entire life revolves around lifting, sad, but that’s great if it works for you that what counts, for most of us that isn’t the case, personally, I would be bored as sh!t if that were me.


    Taking time off isn’t the end of the world for most lifters, they will lose very little and muscle memory will ensure that it will come back in a short time upon return. No big deal for most of us.


    There are people here that have taken years off some decades and they overshadow you, Yet you go at it like you are killing snakes. Why is that I wonder? Probably because they are getting proper nutrition, rest and recovery in concert with quality lifting. I am not saying what you are doing isn't or wont work but it's going to take a lot longer and not the best approach.


    If a person has a solid build, they can take time off and not lose a lot or gain it back fast.
    You are not at this stage yet. If you take time off you will lose a lot because you’re basically chasing a pump not giving the muscle the proper nutrition, rest and recovery.


    You have a lot to learn when it comes to bodybuilding, you’ll get there one day, just not today.

    I am not going to argue or debate this, unlike you, it isn’t bullsh!t that I made up, it’s well known proven and documented facts, so you can accept them or not. No skin off my ass either way

    In summary, you can’t build a brick house without a good foundation otherwise you’ll just end up with a bouncy castle, Good news though, all that is needed to build a bouncy castle is a pump
