Hello
I am returning to the gym after a 9 year break. Im 38.
I have type 1 diabetis and have to inject insulin daily.
Im wondering if theres a way to use this as an atvantage for musckle gain and slight waightloss.
Or if its just a disatvantage, like other areas in my life.
Im tall and slim/skinnyfat - some musckle.

Adult-onset Type 1 here.
Don’t try to game your BG levels or insulin intake.
There’s really no advantage anyway, especially for someone restarting after 9 years off.
Consuming pre- and post- workout triggers insulin production in non-diabetics the same as you giving yourself a shot. The metabolic rebuilding triggers insulin production as well, which you can emulate with diet. The time to consume food or supplements is the same for everybody.
The only slight variation I do myself is take a couple of Cliff Bloks just before workout to ensure I don’t bottom out. Insulin can sit unused in the fatty tissues and the increased blood flow of exertion can cause it to get into your bloodstream. Exertion itself causes insulin to be used more efficiently too. After workout I check my BG and dose insulin if necessary (well, the pump does it now).
Take the insulin appropriate for what you consume, eat healthy and you’ll be fine.
As an aside, get on an insulin pump. They have closed-loop models now that do everything your pancreas would do except produce the insulin. My pump checks my BG every 10 minutes, can increase or decrease my dosage on its own, displays my current BG on the pump and on my cell phone, and sends a report to my doc every night at midnight so we can look back over weeks or months of data when I schedule an appointment.
Best, I only have to do a calibration BG check once per week or so, and no injections at all except the infusion site I change twice per week and the sensor I change once per week. 3-4 “injections” per week vs checking your BG 3-4 times per day and multiple injections per day AND your BG is checked every 10 minutes vs every 6-8 hours. It’s seriously a game changer, especially the closed-loop models.Last edited by tanksoldier; 05-29-2024 at 11:18 PM.

Many bodybuilders who "supplement" with products that aren't over the counter use insulin in their regimen, but you'll have to go to one of the hardcore bodybuilding sites where things of that nature are openly discussed to get more information.
