It's different with vet disability checks. Vets who get less than 100% in disability can often work up to a full time civilian job + overtime before any of that would ever factor into their disability payout benefits. The only time they maybe can't work is if they get to a point where even their spouse gets the stipend, but even then, they'll do all kinds of personal leisurely chit that doesn't make any sense at all for someone on a disability to be doing.

I'm 100% VA permanent and total by the VA and a Purple Heart recipient. They actually did most of that for me. I didn't ask them to do it. It's fair to criticize the system. There probably are a lot of posers. I'm not one of them. I probably could go to work, but I'm in pain all day, all the time. I was wounded in the hand and the neck. I guess unless you have neck problems, you don't really understand the discomfort. It sucks to stand. It sucks to sit. Also, I hate crowds, traffic, people, and just generally being out of the house. I guess being blown up, watching people die, and carrying dead bodies does something to you.

I used to feel badly that I received the Purple Heart because I'm not missing any limbs. I also used to feel badly about being rated by the VA. Not anymore on either account. I made it. The decisions I made when I was younger put me in a position that I am in now to be retired, albeit not without cost.

you are personalizing a structural issue. by and large, military/cops/firefighters are conservative and they fancy themselves as 'true blue americans'. the reality is they are glorified welfare recipients. bringing up the contract is irrelevant. social security is also a contract and its destined to bring down the entire country.
