100% this. Would rather push decent weight controlled with good form to a point where the last reps are difficult. Much better than looking like your eyes are about to pop out because you just have to get some magical number set in your head….only to get messed up and placed out of commission for weeks/months. And that’s before even getting into maintaining longevity of joints.

Just cause you 1RM'd a certain weight with a huge bounce off your chest and your ass a foot off the bench doesn't mean that's what you can bench.

I can hit 315 for about 4 right now. Coming off of a bad hand injury that took me out of seriously lifting for a few months. I would never claim I "bench 335" or whatever my 1RM is. Always claim the weight your working sets (3+ reps) are.

if you can hit a three point shot one time, but can't hit anymore after that..... it doesnt mean you're a 3pt shooter, it means that is not your range.


if you can shoot and knock down 10 three pointers, say you go 10 for 10... then you're a legit shooter from that range.
