Row? As if you were seated to do do pulldowns but lie down on your back on the bench?
I don't know if I'm picturing it correctly but it sounds like a variation of a cable row. Rather than seated, you just lay down. But it's still a row which works the lats and builds thickness as opposed to width (which pulldowns and pullups do).

I think you boyos might be right. I didn't know this variant had a name, now I do. Probably better than normal rows, since your chest is supported and torso on a flat plane you can get a greater ROM and since you can rest it for a second on the ground between reps, the movements can be more explosive too.Back off, Warchild.
