By 1997 the UK was a dinosaur, completely leveling off in every way. Indians and Chinese were 90% living in shanties on a farm still. Outside of colleges broadband internet was a rare luxury in the US, let alone the schit-in-a-hole-in-the-ground world who'd never seen a computer. Srsly, India especially was no better off than Sub Saharan nations are today, if at their level. A decade later I was drinking whiskey in California with an Indian guy, talking loose connections I had to set up a company to import drugs from India to Canada into the US.

The funny thing about these stats is that they never tell the full story, like

1 - Britain lost its empire because it decided Hitler was a bigger threat than the Jewish bankers that had infiltrated it
2 - They outsourced their industry for a cheap buck just like every other boomer did in every western country
