Saturday night my oldest boy passed away peacefully on my kitchen floor. He had just finished playing with my younger boy, walked away laid on the floor and he was gone just like that. I placed his body back in his crate because my plan was to bury him on my property. I have 3 other dogs. I thought it was important to keep him around for a short amount of time for them and I needed to prepare his plot.
I took all the dogs one by one to see Boaz resting peacefully in his crate...they all sat quietly just looking at him and sniffing around. If there such a thing as dog closure I think they knew he was gone. I buried him on the side of a willow tree out back (one I planted years ago,) and there's a nice bench to sit on next to his plot. I figured when my grandkids come they can sit on the bench, say hello and talk to him...maybe leave a little flower, etc...a quiet spot where they can spend time with him. I got a little engraved stone that I'm going to place on his plot so we always know where he is.
RIP my handsome beast...
I'm crushed and I miss him so much...

Sorry to hear this. He got a final romp with one of the boys and went to sleep.
That's as good as it gets. You did a good job providing that for him.The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

So sorry for your loss. I hate these kind of threads.
I think he had the perfect ending. No scary trip to the vet, no anxiety for you of wondering if it’s the right time to make the call, no suffering.
Was this expected? Still a gut punch to lose a pet, especially one you’ve had long.
Edit - handsome fella! Looks like he was an absolute unit

I’m sorry for your loss Kim. A very handsome dog indeed. I hesitate to buy another dog these days because the loss sucks so much. Best wishes from me, and I hope you meet him again someday.
I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. So, I thought I could only see patches of reality, never the whole picture. I felt like I was watching a dream I could never wake up from. Before I knew it, the dream was over.

Oh Kimm I am so very sorry for your loss of your handsome boy. It sounds like he passed very peacefully and quickly. I love the idea of a bench by his plot to be able to sit and visit him. You and your family will be in my thoughts. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved dog.

It’s never easy. Lost my English bulldog in what will be one year ago on Thursday. She made it to 14 1/2. We had her put down because she was just miserable at that point. She had a hard time getting around. I was carrying her from the bed to the backyard numerous times a day. And it was probably hurting her as I did it. She never wanted to get off my pillow.
I didn’t even mention it on the misc or any socials when it first happened because I was so devastated.

Rest in peace, sweet pup. I lost my 14 year old guy a few years ago and I still miss him everyday and dream about him. He was my first guy when I was just on my own in my first place.
I know this sounds rough, but the way your sweet boy passed is the best possible way. He didn't endure suffering. He had just been having fun and your boy chose his time relieving you of that difficult decision. He just laid down and passed peacefully.
Wishing you comfort. Boaz sounded like he lived a great life!Sweet dreams, Bunny crew - https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=166681061&highlight=sweet+dreams+bunny
