Original Gameboy games look good on PC with upscaling.
Also, recommend me some game boy games. As a kid, I loved Link's Awakening, Mario Land 2, the DKC ports, James Bond 007, and Pokemon, but I don't really know many other good games for it. I have a huge rom collection, but nothing really looks interesting.

I never really liked the DS line in general tbh
dual screen is not for me, can't stand touch controls
3DS added "3D" graphics which I instantly turned off lmfao
I always got them to play the handful of games I really wanted but not a fan
but that's my personal opinion lol, I'm sure there are a lot of people that love the system
edit: imo handheld gaming peaked with the GB/GBC/GBA, now the Switch is basically offering "console games" on the go, to me that's a different thing
handheld games should have a simplicity going for them since you're limited with the smaller screen and you might not be in a ideal gaming setting, so adding a second screen and touch controls isn't helping let alone offering full blown console games with all their complexityLast edited by TokenV; 05-13-2022 at 11:45 PM.

Vita is a fantastic handheld other than there not being a ton of quality exclusive games due to them giving up on it so quick. Actually feels like a premium product too unlike Nintendo ones that always manages to feel like a Fisher Price toy.
Shame that the prices on most games are so inflated at this point. Pretty expensive to buy in now.

Yeah I'm glad I got in on the Vita early and while you could still buy some new hardware in Japan. I got an original launch OLED model and a late revision model in the metallic red.
I think what doomed it's success early was Sony's decision to go with proprietary memory format for the storage. It made it so the storage for the Vita was highly limited and very overpriced, something that probably tuned off a lot of people.
Honestly it's a lot like the PSP Go, which I also got, am a fan of, that didn't do that well either. A great handheld with some great design concepts and ideas that basically came out ahead of it's time. Nobody was really ready for digital gaming when the PSP Go came out, and the Vita just wasn't setup well for digital gaming.

Ya my Vita is the white OLED one that came with assassin's creed liberation. Mine came with only 4gb which literally only held 1 game at a time. I had to order a 32gb card online for like $80 and I think if you wanted 64gb you had to buy from Japan.
I also have a PSP Go which I bought years after launch and modded so I could play the retro systems along with PSP and PS1. Always thought it was a cool design and was really the only super portable way to play PS1 games at the time.
I think they made Vita a lot harder to hack too which negated a big selling point of the PSPs lol. One of the big reasons I got a PSP Go was so I didn't have to mess around with my Vita and potentially fk it up.

Loved vita, played so much Killzone online, it was great. One of the best multiplayer shooters I've played.
Sadly the game library of Vita is a joke and doesn't come close to the compitition at that time, the 3DS.
Also lacked the L2 and R2 buttons, so emulation wasn't that good either.
Fck Sony though, it had so much potential.

The 'grading system' takes a percentage of what the game sells for. That is the reason why these games are inflated. The grading system is in cahoots with the auction sites. They can inflate the bidding and take a higher percentage of what these games sell for. IMO, we will be seeing a retro video game bubble (crash) within the next 10 years or so.
Buy what you want to play or collect, but do not do so thinking that you will get a great return on them.
My list of 'must-play' GB games.

The Gameboy Light would be cool to own. However, the new IPS screens that you can put into retro handhelds nowadays are a game-changer.
Yes. You can mod a 3DS and play 3DS, NDS, GBA, GB, NES, Atari, etc.

Yeah I got the OLED Vita that was the special deluxe launch edition with the built-in 3G wireless capability, I never once used the 3G because you needed to pretty much setup a cell phone plan for that and it was just kinda pointless chit as there was hardly anything worth trying to use it for. Still, it came with a nice ass case that you could only get with that bundle, and I think they included a 4GB card as well. I remember pretty much just throwing that 4GB card away and paying out the ass for a 32GB card.
That served me well but towards the end of the Vita's life when the support in Japan was shutting down I ordered a brand new revision Vita with a 64GB card. That turned out to be a great decision because shortly after they sold out their remaining stock and the prices for that skyrocketed. Honestly now a days I would probably have a hard time justifying getting a Vita, it was one of those things where you really had to of been there and taken advantage of it being on the market while it was still somewhat relevant, especially since the digital store was such a big part of the library in the end.
I actually got 4 modern retro handhelds, think all but one of them has IPS screens. The Anbernic handhelds have been my favorite, just great high quality little handhelds, perfect size and shape for everything I used them for. Especially since two of them have the GBA's native screen size, just higher res I think so everything scales perfectly. My other two have 4:3 screens and I mostly use them for playing PS1 games.
The cool thing about the Game Boy Light though is how it's basically just a Game Boy Pocket but with a lit screen, which means you got that authentic old fashioned screen with contrast adjustment, it's just gives off a look that you can't really replicate with modern retro handhelds. That and you can play the original authentic games. It's a much more expensive and limited way to go though obviously, but I like having it for experiencing what Game Boy used to feel like.

I agree. I don't have a Gameboy Light, but I did a backlight mod on a Gameboy DMG and Pocket. They look and appear just like a Gameboy Light. I kept a couple of my Gameboys stock just so that they are original. I like trying to stay original, but the screen blur in the original DMG and even to a degree on the Pocket, is hard to overlook once I upgraded to an IPS.

Super Castlevania IV
F-Zero
Chrono Trigger (classic game must be played)
Mega-man X
Super Mario World
Earthbound (not for everyone but it has a legendary reputation)
