Why do the crazy heavy weight? Why not moderate weight and higher reps per set?

Bruh you’re still young and dumb and haven’t learned your lesson yet.
When I was younger I fukked up by back exactly the same way even with a trainer. Did heavy deadlifts to try to reach PR without a belt. Heard something snap and couldn’t bend forward for 2 days and thought I recovered after a week so did medium weight squats and this time fukked it up really bad and had chronic lower back and sciata pain for 6 months. Got an MRI and diagnosed with bulging disc at L5-S1. Had to go to 3-4 months of physical therapy and was still feeling pain after a while.
Lesson learned was that if you’re not competing as pro-builder, not worth doing heavy DLs and squats. (But even as pro, is it worth it to become like Ronnie Coleman?) Also even worse idea if you’re an officel who sits in front of the computer all day and head to the gym with tight ass hamstrings and weak core that don’t help fire the proper muscles for proper form when doing heavy lifts.Last edited by TCmaxxing; 08-14-2023 at 09:08 AM.

No one should ever deadlift or squat,
100% serious,
there is no reason to do that, you’re not making any money, you’re not gonna get more pussy, you’re not going to suddenly get smarter, you’re not going to have an orgasm, there’s literally no reason to do that. All you’re going to do is **** up your back, you may not **** it up today or tomorrow or next year, but when you are 60 years old, you’re going to feel it.

Depends where it hurts.
Is it the butt muscle and to the left or right of center on your lower back? if so thats a muscle thing you can most likely stretch out.
Smack in the center is where all the vertebra are so might be something more that stretching can fix."To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

blows my mind how so many people here are anti deadlift/squat when it seems every exercise program recommends them...
https://www.google.com/search?q=best...hrome&ie=UTF-8
I clicked on five of the top results, pretty sure every one includes squats and deadlifts...
We all have different goals, and ego lifting is bad, but to completely cut them out because you saw Ronnie Coleman or other fukkers get hurt is terrible. It feels good lifting a chit ton of weight, and that motivates some people

2 weeks rest minimum.
Take some pain killers, and use heat & cold packs, rotating. (10 min hot then 10 min cold).
The less pain you feel, the quicker you'll be able to heal.
You power through it, and the recovery will take longer.I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

i would say 60% you probably popped a ligament or a muscle .... anything else youd be dieing from pain and other stuff
two things:
one :
i would suggest you take 10 days off ...if during these 10 day the pain started subsiding but its still there... then stay away from lifting for 30 days ..... if the pain diminishes by 90% .... start with very light weights... if the pain comes back... lay low for 6 weeks.... if the pain subsides ...go back with light weights... if the pain comes back... its doctor time.... it means you fukced up something in your back really bad
two:
if the pain is dull/sharp and increasing with walking ,bending problems.... pain while breathing.....its doctor time and better pepper angusCherish your life. Live to tell your story

While yes the amount of weight matters but how is OPs form? or he did OP go too heavy and therefore compromised his form? See that far too often as well and guys end up getting hurt.
I usually dont go over 315 on deadlift. Used to flirt with 405 but I was also much younger. and squat is about the same. Knees hurt and lately have had a pinched nerve in my hip that has been bugging me especially on squatsMisc Photography Crew

You got what you asked for dingleberry
1. You got hurt
2. Decided ehhh fuxk it, I'm going to do 5*5 heavy squats maybe even add alil pause
3. Now it hurts more
Just had to show those gym bunnies the powerful 2 and a half plate squat huh
Couldn't just take 1 plate for a ride
Also, having a big squat is dope but for some people it does fuxk all for leg size
Keep grinding doofus

Granted I was never
strong going by misc standards but when I stop doing heavy compound lifts my body eventually starts hurting. Like my lower back will hurt from just sitting at work if i haven’t done squats/deadlifts in the past few monthsBest lifts:
Bench press: 315x4, 345x1
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

Appreciate the replies brahs. I forgot to mention that I did the 5x5 squats after resting for about 5 days after the initial deadlifting injury.
And I literally got the injury from warm up with 1 plate srs. I think the problem was that I went too fast. Usually when I warm up for deadlifts I try to go fast and focus on bar speed, I think that compromised my form and the sudden movement fuking popped something. I had been deadlifting heavy prior to that so I was likely already tired from that.
I’m gonna take it easy for a while and just do bodybuilding type of stuff like you guys said. Lower weights and higher reps and focus more on upper body to let my lower back heal. I will also look up the lower back protocol thing like you guys suggested and stick to machines for lower body stuff.
Good to see that misc still lifts. I’ll probably just not deadlift at all anymore since it was never one of my major goals anyway. I’ll just stick to squats after I heal up. Thanks again brahs.Yellow Fever Crew -- https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=176364181

Most back injuries are minor. Wouldn't recommend going to the doctor unless you want surgery. As long as you have feeling in your toes I really wouldn't worry much. PT might be valid though or just research on YouTube.

Herniated disc
Snap City of piss
Don’t lift anything for a while and it might get better on its own, srs
Once the pain dies down and you get some more mobility after a few days or a week, start doing stretches for your lower back
