There's 2 scenarios where I'd go braless.

1. Specific clothes. Some clothes you can't wear a bra with due to the cut/fit or fabric type . But in those cases, you should probably wear at least a nipple cover/tape.

2. Camping. I usually pack light for camping (ei. Minimal clothes, so one bra). So if I'm going for a hike and it's going to make things hot/sweaty, I leave the bra off.

Otherwise, maybe some women leave braless for attention or it could be just more comfortable that way for them.
