Well it looks like BMW and MB are planning to keep prices high after the chip shortage ends by limiting new car inventory.
Now that People have been paying more for cars manufacturers want to push margins up.
Manufacturers get more profit, dealers will get their mark up, and the averahe customer loses.

Only suckers buy these brands... usually try hards that don't even turn their own wrenches paying out the arse for oil changes and basic maintenance. Ill take a lexus or acrua over these two any day when it comes to a luxury car.

It will not work for makers that are able to move large volumes.
BMW and MB volumes are nothing compared to Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford, FCA, Hyundai, etc.
Large volume movers cannot limit or control supplies since their priority is to move as many cars as possible with an acceptable profit margin and the competition between these cheaper cars are higher.Steam - jinda28

Brand Identity. At one time, BMW and Mercedes were the upper end of the practical car market. The thing is the sales were low and of course bean counters wanted to see more cars sold to get more volume and increase profits and market share. Sure, sounds great, but then the dealerships started filling up with the common car buyer that brings in their misbahaving children to make a mess out of the cappichino machine and they think they and their car is special. Just LOL @ the A class benz. Because the C class is out of your budget? Go buy a Dodge. MB and BMW are now the "try hard" and poser-mobiles.
Some people shop at Whole Foods or even Publix mainly because they don't mind paying a little more so they don't have to put up with the Walmart crowd. Same with cars.
