Conversation sounds EXACTLY what I was over hearing a receptionist saying to a customer at my doctors office. Lady was persistant on being tested while the receptionist had to keep repeating that they recommend people who have no symptoms, and have not been in contact with anyone with it not come down to be tested. Not sure how the conversation ended.
On a side note, the guy that owns the HD shop by me took his whole staff to be tested, all filled out paper work then were told it would be an hour wait. None of them felt like sticking around so all 12 left.....they ALL received phone calls stating they tested POSITIVE. what a joke.

Yeah, we should go back to a time when the smart people did just that including colds.
And when someone showed up to work obviously coughing all over the printer and conference room, avoid touching your face and always washing hands, I working with a really smart dude, who wipe those things down (the whole conference room before use).

There are some cases when regular testing (when symptomless) is useful, such as intensive care teams, nurses in a chemo unit and some other care situations, or... large groups of people working in very close proximity for long periods e.g. film sets
Without a medical (or practical) good reason for testing I don't think it should be done
If there isn't a medical (or practical) reason, then the motivation is anxiety/hysteria. If a person can't be dissuaded by rational argument (resisting further comments about husbands and rational argument with wives) then it may be better to let the person just take the damn test, because it'll reassure them. Once they've had the back of their neck cleaned by a swab up the nose, they'll be less keen to rush back next time

We had to get tested a couple of months ago as Amealia was sent home from school with a cough and temperature (literally not allowed back to school without a clearance.) She got sicker during the evening and I rang the hospital and they demanded I take her in,and we were placed into a negative pressure isolation room and medical staff that entered were fully gowned, gloved, goggled and masked. Got her temp down and were sent home, and told to not go anywhere until the results came back. That was a Wednesday, and got the negative result on the Monday.
Since June we have been dealing with some medical issues that have developed with Gloria. Appointment once a week and specialists every second week, once a month appointments for tests at the city hospital. We are questioned about flu like symptoms, travel and temperature tested every time. They must observe us sanitizing hands and masks are compulsory, and have little sticky dots that we have to put on our clothing to show we have been checked and the colour of the dots change daily. They also take our contact details.
Everywhere has signage at the entry and sometimes at counters of the maximum amount of people allowed inside at any time. Everywhere has hand sanitizer at entry and even throughout some stores. Every place has markers on the floors where we are to stand for service and each mark is 1.5 metres apart. Certain places like pubs and gyms that I know of for certain have to have a "covid marshall" and the majority of places have a sign in requirement, supermarkets don't. Either literally sign a book with name and contact,or use a Q code. Even half the chairs at places like McDonalds have been removed and the tables are marked that they cannot be used.
We are so used to these things that when we meet friends in the street we automatically distance.
People rarely wear masks in general and we have been pretty lucky in our area with no infections.
