im more of an athlete, the physique is just a plus.

u can stay lean both ways only doing cardio or doing weightlifting+diet, if it was me i would probably do a mix of both
with only cardio u can be lean but u wont have too much muscle to show, idk if thats a concern for u but its just facts
and with weightlifting+diet u could look great but on the other side u wont have the health benefits that cardio brings.

i do run on both, mostly around neighbourhood/or any other place in my city
and yes, i have the same "problem" as u, i dont have much of a flat space to run, its mostly hills here but if u get used to it its great.
that lake is like half a mile away from my house so i usually run there, it isnt flat, but the view helps a lot. its 3.5km per lap

5km = sub15 for sure i dont tend / i've never tried to PR short distances because now i mostly run above 12-15km for aerobic capacity but my specialty was the sprint.
when i played football (soccer) i was the fastest player BY FAR
i've never tracked a mile because i run in kms.
but my PR in 100m is 10.61

It’s always such bullchit when people say that cardio doesn’t burn fat. If I eat 3500 calories and burn 500 doing cardio, I look better/leaner than if I eat 3000 calories but no cardio just lifting.

I've seen bodies from soccer players who basically just run. Ab definition is pretty common, with low enough body fat to make other muscles pop even when small. But OP looks like legit size in chest, shoulder, and arms. Have to say it's pretty hard to believe (especially at 6'0) BUT not calling BS. Genetics def can go a long way

i am from Argentina, used to play football at Boca Juniors, i trained my speed there too.
he's 55-56? he played professional football til his 40s and hes really active in terms of running/ciclying and have a 8/10 balanced diet so, he doesnt have the best physique i've ever seen but he looks way better than 99% of ppl of his age.
dont really know tbh because from my experience i always did cardio.
